Boca Nebbiolo Blend 2017

David T
9.2

Interesting wine. This one is a blend of Nebbiolo and Vespolina grapes. Not every surrounding region allow Vespolina, but Boca does.

The nose is muted. Not showing much. Macerated dark fruits, sandstone & black turned earth.

The body is mucher thicker from the extraction & Vespolina. Medium plus, fine, dark, polished tannins. It shows grapy, dark cherries, blackberries, a plum/raspberry blend, poached strawberries with lift of blueberries hues as it sets. Dark spice w/ some heat, dry soils, dark, muddy earth with clay, dry stones, dry tobacco, leather, dry wood plank, dry herbs, with red flowers with red & pink roses, round acidy with a well made, structured, nicely tensioned, polish finish that land on dry, fine tannins and stones.

This will require 8-10 plus years to flush out.

Land of Saints

San Luis Obispo County Pinot Noir 2021

Big juicy fruit aromas with underlying herbs (oregano and others... I need to work on my herb aromas), tart and juicy black cherry and herbs on the palate, with a bit of body for a Pinot. Will be perfect with tritip off the Traeger tonight! And pork tenderloin on Monday. But 13.6%, yikes! Too easily drunk for that. — 8 months ago

Château Cantemerle

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

A nice Bordeaux and a bunch of mesquite-grilled lamb chops. This Cantemerle is quite dense and youthful. Color shows almost no sign of age. With air, nose slowly unfurls to show lots of graphite, menthol, tight cassis fruit, underbrush, and crushed rock. Medium bodied, the flavors are tight too, and there is nice concentration, but it’s mostly promise for the future. Tannins are nicely managed and there is good acidity. 9.2+ — 2 years ago

Summum Seven Springs Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

Summum: Popped and poured; enjoyed with our first course of corn chowder. The 2015 Summum pours a bright neon yellow color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is youthful with bright notes Meyer lemon, star fruit, yellow flowers, some butter, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and has a chalky texture. The balance of fruit and minerals soooo Eola-Amity Hills. Drink now through 2030. — 6 months ago

High alcohol. Medium to high concentration. Nose is almost refreshing like a juicy pear. Silky. Low tannins. Smooth, balanced from start to finish. Maybe a little caramel and vanilla at the finish. — 9 months ago

La Source Seven Springs Pinot Noir 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

A smoky blend of crushed raspberries, sage, cola and crushed stones creates a seductive bouquet as the 2019 Pinot Noir La Source comes to life in the glass. This is soft yet lifted in feel, with tart red and blue fruits that swirl throughout as violet inner florals resonate toward the close. The 2019 finishes perfumed and long with an air of lavender and a tart blackberry twang that lingers over a bed of well-rounded tannins. This is the first vintage in which Sashi Moorman was entirely happy with the structural balance achieved in the Pinot Noir La Source. I must admit, it's a compelling wine. Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Medium Ruby with ripe berry fruit flavors, some tea, floral and spice notes. On the palate flavors of cherry, cranberry and raspberry with earthy herbs and citrus notes. Fine integrated tannins on medium+ finish ending with fruit and earthy character. Nice! — 7 months ago

Mt. Brave

Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Mt. Brave is a relative newcomer to the Jackson Family portfolio however, to my palate, it’s one of the more interesting. Like many of the more remarkable wines, it’s the land that makes Mt. Brave special. The vineyard way up on Mt. Veeder was formerly the source of fruit for the OG Chateau Potelle, which sold to Jess Jackson back in 2007.

Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Fairly consistent throughout but it might have been my favorite on Day 2. The 2012 pours a deep ruby, bordering purple with an opaque core. Medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears; definitely some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of blackberries, cassis, black plums, tobacco, new leather, some light pyrazines, rocky earth, and beautiful baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the dark fruit is so dense! Drinks well now but could easily bring delight through 2035.
