La Chapelle De Bordeaux

Château Prieuré-Lichine

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Opened four hours prior to service and decanted for 45 minutes before returning to the bottle. The 1982 pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate stating of the tears. There remained some sediment despite being decanted. On the nose, the wine is vinous with an intriguing combination of ripe and desiccated (mostly) fruits: cassis, brambles, green bell pepper, leather, tobacco and a hint of baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is elegant, refined and satisfying. This is a classic expression of Margaux and certainly at peak. Sublime. Drink now through 2032+. — 20 hours ago

Château Rieussec

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2016

This is still young but drinking superbly. Plenty of acidity to offset the sweetness, very long finish. Aromas and flavors of pineapple, orange blossom, honey, peach, apricot, dried apricot, ripe pear, candied lemon, ginger, saffron, vanilla - so much going on in the glass! Exceptional wine with excellent balance of sweetness, flavor intensity and acidity. Has many years ahead of it but hard to resist now. — 5 days ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1988

Double decanted before service; enjoyed over a several hour period. The 1988 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and significant signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with dried dark fruit, tobacco, mocha, grilled meat, mushrooms, damp earth and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry. At this point, the tannins have integrated completely and are perceived as medium; acid is similar. Finish is medium. This leaned towards the more rustic, old school style of Bordeaux and I’m all for it. While this isn’t falling off a cliff, I would drink now. — 3 days ago

Château Guiraud

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2009

NOSE: apricot jelly…pineapple…vanilla cookie.

TASTE: peach, mango, apricot, pineapple, vanilla cream, caramel. Cooked peach (like canned peach juice) lingers — lengthy finish. Almost over the top! 93.

2nd Ribcap wine. Delicious!

2006 followed the grand 2005 vintage. It was overpriced based on 2005 & critically reviewed as a difficult vintage. I can tell you 06 was overpriced, but still a good to very good vintage depending on the region & producer.

The fruits are classic Bordeaux…nicely ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, very dark cherries, black plum, plum, mix of strawberries & red cherries. Wet, volcanic clay, lead pencil for days, slightly, dry tobacco, dark spices, mix of mostly dry & fresh herbs, clove, nutmeg, some cinnamon & vanillin, volcanic ash, used leather, sandalwood to cedar, forest floor w/ dry leaves, dry river stone, steeped, dark fruit tea, withering, slightly candied; dark, red florals with hints of violets, round, fresh, river stream acidy, a plush, round, elegant, nicely; tensioned, structured, balanced and elegant polished finish that last 90 seconds.

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

2 hour decant(decent chunky sediment). A stunning dark crimson color with little bricking. On the nose: expressive perfumed notes of dark red fruit, creme de cassis, mushrooms, floral, touch of stewed meat and cigar box. Taste: velvety, classy, fresh wine with red fruit, minerals, herbal, earth, pencil lead and a nice peppery cedar/leather medium plus finish. Sure, maybe not the depth/concentration of a classic vintage, but I can sniff/sip this wine all night. YUM! Happy Father's day to me. — 9 days ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

SPEC TA CU LAR! Here you feel the absolute majesty of a wine who can be promoted to at least 2nd growth. Cedar, camphor, eucalyptus, butterscotch/4 spices, yellow curry. I’ve always loved ‘00 in Pauillac has I think it’s the last great of the classic style. Definitely this bottling is a keeper. — 11 days ago

Château L'Evangile

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1997

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a wide brick rim.

Nice nose with red and black fruits, light oak, tobacco leaf, light mildew, cola and dark coffee.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth, vegetables, forest floor and black pepper.

Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 27 year old is still drinking very nicely, although definitely not at its peak anymore. Complex and engaging.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime.

I Had this same vintage a little while ago, and this bottle drinks much better. At this age, the condition of the specific bottle is very imperative.

Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Always nice to drink these kind of old wines.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$250.

@"Odedi", always one of my very favorite Bordeaux (I do prefer Lafleur, but that passed my point of extreme pain many years ago — LOL)!!

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

Opened around 8pm the evening prior, double decanted and left in room temperature until service on Friday evening. In total, this was opened 24hours before service. The 1995 pours a beautiful garnet with transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate stating of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with surprisingly boozy dark fruit. Brambles, cassis, bell pepper, licorice, spearmint and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with great acidity. Overall, remarkably youthful. While it’s certainly ready to go, it will likely continue some positive evolution over the next couple of decades. Drink now with a long decant through 2045. — 20 hours ago

Château Pavie

Saint-Èmilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

A very dark Ruby colour. Rich flavours on the full bodied palate. Jancis said a Bordeaux trying to be Californian - a fair comment IMO but delicious nevertheless. Not particularly Saint Emillion as the fruit is way riper than usual. Black plum, mulberry and a hint of sweet pipe tobacco. Even at 18 years of age I may have drunk this a little early. 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The next night still rich and powerful. — 9 days ago
