Yeah. That’s a killer. — 6 years ago
Meewwww.... knowing Mastro’s game with Radici and their Taurasi in general, I was quite disappointed by this bottling. I was expecting power and intensity. Was “ok”.

Supposedly a bad vintage. Well..... Send them all to me.

#1996 vintage .
Glorious. Intense, silky, velvety, sexy. Chateau Latour style here, muscular and tight. Absolutely loved every bit of it. The final is epic! This wine just does not fade away! It builds on the palate forever. Beautiful — 6 years ago
Wasn’t expecting “much” of 88 Margaux but 😳 , it was a killer ! Plush, sexy, multilayered, everlasting finish, great oak integration and vivid acidity. Love the cedar-camphor- dry eucalyptus nose. This wine got it all right and had a truly great evolution. — 6 years ago
Not your average “Jo-sé”. Bone dry, heavyweight at 14+ alc, intense. A huge guy. Buy it by the case.
Terrific with a 12 hours braised lamb shank+ herbes de Provence. Add some roasted apricots. — 6 years ago
Almost perfect but perfection does not exist.
What is striking here is how balance and integrated and youthful this wine is. Had it twice and I cannot see this wine going down. This is the equivalent of Mouton 82 for California. It’s muscular, right, beautifully crafted, oak is integrated, tannins are sublime, beautiful cassis cream, and blonde tobacco. Eucalyptus, tobacco, peppermint are flagrant on the nose .
This is monumental.
One of the very best wines I’ve ever had. BRAVO! #wine #california #heitzwinecellars #1974

Great wine indeed. Nose is complex, camphor, dry amarena cherry, some flint, no oxidation not fading on this bottle yet.
On the palate, Fruit is gone for this bottle, wine is dominated by its tannic structure that is on the dry side, almost austere. I was expecting a fleshier, mellower tannin. Dry herbs, dry raisins, cherry again.
Long finish, good acidity that’s keeps the wine alive and well going.
Mitigate the intensity with proteins and juice/sauce.
Osso bucco with prunes will work. We did Fiorentina and it was ok. The crust and smokiness did not help, over exhibiting the dryness of tannins. — 6 years ago
