Saltner Südtirol-Alto Adige Pinot Nero 2019

I haven’t had an Italian Pinot Nero in literally decades. This is actually quite good and seems to reflect mountain-grown Pinot nicely. Light color. Nose is fragrant with bright, ripe cherry and crushed, bright mountain stone. A wee bit of spice. In the mouth it’s flavorful and transparent, with bouncy cherry fruit and crushed rock at the fore. Nice acids and a teensy bit of tannin to scaffold the package. — 23 days ago

High acidity white flowers and bees wax nose. Crunchy. Best white of this winery. Didn’t like the Chardonnay nor the Sauvignon Blanc. #pinotgrigio #altoadige — a year ago

Saltner Südtirol-Alto Adige Pinot Noir 2017

Lion figure in gold on the label. Very Euro. Color is rusty, dusty red. Aroma of a warm strawberry in summer. And maybe lakes. Clean, fresh flavors. Just the most faint savory bar-b-que pork to go with the cherry-chocolate cordial. Perfect hint of funk under it all. This is a fun and delectable Pinot from the Alto Adige. Italy might be on to something. — 3 years ago

Quintessenz Pinot Bianco 2016

Not overly aromatic with shy ripe pear, sourdough rye toast, cool stony minerality and a herby whiff. Great presence and depth yet also freshness.
On the palate this shows breadth & depth. Great density balanced by fresh, juicy acidity and an amazing finish with pronounced saline minerality. Beautifully integrated wood (12m aging on fine lees in aged 500l tonneaux), great precision.
This is probably peeking right now and drinking absolutely beautifully.
What a delightful discovery!
