This apparently is a joint project of Egon Muller and Miroslav Petrech. It’s really good. Almost petrolly minerals and green herbs mingle with fragrant green and golden apple on the nose. There’s a hint of a lactic or sponti note too. Big yet balanced and lively in the mouth. Big flavors are quite dry. Nice acids for a wine that’s 14%. Color me impressed! — 4 months ago

Notes of crushed rock, soy and allspice mingle with red plum and black raspberry fruit. Mineral and linear on the palate with juicy tannins. Fruit is red current and plum with subtle notes of cardamom. This is drinking well but missing a touch of complexity and length. — 3 years ago

The 2018 ‘Edith’ Rose is a highly refreshing and gratifying new wine that is amongst the best of its kind in North America. Sourced from the ‘Armada Vineyard’, once on the nose this takes on pretty red rose petals that mingle with cantaloupe and wet stone and smoky tones that all meld in the glass. The palate is wonderfully fresh and vibrant with great acidity and a seamless texture. Layers of Gravenstein apple, watermelon, nectarine and kumquat zest collide with minerals and smoky undertones on this complex palate. As the wine warms up, it becomes even more nuanced and complex, still showing wonderful mouth-watering acidity. Medium straw with green tinges. Nice persistent perlage and pleasant creaminess. The nose is pure bliss. Caramel with butter, apricots and pears, honey and apples. Fragrant floral notes along with warm brioche and sea spray.

A very stately and baronial wine from Chouilly in the Côte des Blancs. Rich and well developed at this point. The minerality is so good and the acidity just right. Precise and concentrated with all the depth that you would expect. Very lively and powerful.

The palate follows the nose with honey dipped apples and cinnamon. Chalky notes mingle with the electric citrus fruit. Long, long finish that just keeps going on and on. This still hasn’t hit its peak, it has miles to go. — 9 months ago

This exudes the aromas of mature Chave Hermitage. Blackberry, red plum and cassis mingle with smoked cured meats, graphite, forest floor, soy and allspice aromas. The wine is surprisingly lithe with juicy tannins and pitch perfect acidity. Flavors of cured meats, cranberry, red plum jump on the palate. The finish is elegant with mineral inflected red fruit notes. This showcases the blending art at the estate as 97 had distinct challenges in during the year and harvest. — 3 years ago

This is an enjoyable, easy-drinking wine with medium tannins and medium acidity and plenty of red and black fruit character. Black cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb, plum and violets all mingle on the bouquet and palate. The 2017 Toil Oregon Pinot Noir is absolutely singing even in its youth. Shades of blood orange zest and peat moss combine with the core of red fruits on the nose. The palate is vibrant showing a great combination of tension and weight. This has a prettier fruit profile certainly than the 2015 edition, with pomegranate seed and Tangerine zest that mingle with minerals and the earthy undertones of the wine. This is highly elegant Pinot Noir. Bright and very pretty now at the three year mark, the 2017 Toil Pinot Noir will show beautifully for two decades. Drink 2020-2038- 95 — 4 years ago
