Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2009

Opened about an hour prior to service. The 2009 Chambertin Clos de Béze pours a brilliant ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, holy shit…this came to party. There’s a mix of ripe and bruised strawberry, Bing cherry, mixed brambles, dried red flowers, sous bois, mushrooms, beautiful warm spices and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Everything is in fantastic balance; generous and yet hitting all the classic notes. It was also my favorite with the foie gras au torchon prepared with grilled Colorado palisade peaches, toasted almonds, aged sherry gastrique, thyme and toasted brioche. Brilliant. Drink now through 2059. — 18 days ago

San Javier Rio Negro Patagonia Malbec 2022

Clear, deep ruby to purple in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and secondary aromas of black plums, graphite, and green peppers; on the palate, it's dry with medium acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol, full body, and pronounced primary and secondary aromas of blackberries, blueberries, tar, and clay pots with a long finish. This wine is balanced and intense. Overall, I rate it as very good. Nellie likes it too. — 7 months ago

Clos St. Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2004

Clos Saint‑Jacques is often hailed as the “Musigny” of Gevrey‑Chambertin. It combines the signature power and structure of Gevrey with the elegance and finesse of Vosne‑Romanée, and Armand Rousseau’s bottling has always been remarkably consistent.

2004 was a challenging vintage—a weak year in which many grapes failed to reach full ripeness. Now that it has entered its drinking window, it opens up quite nicely. This is not a flamboyant style; instead, it leans more toward herbaceous notes and bay leaf, with hints of florals and red cherry. It has a mineral quality, yet without the saline or briny character often found in other Gevrey vineyards. The acidity is well‑balanced. The overall bouquet is delicately fresh, reserved rather than exuberant, yet persistent, and it doesn’t evolve dramatically over time.

Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2020

Medium deep ruby, quite bright and intense , thin ruby rim . Quite deep and spicy on the nose , with a touch of oak and dark cherry , quite a lot of summer fruits also , flowers and an earthy , herbal tinge, which becomes more prominent with time . On the palate this is very suave and detailed , very polished , lots of sweet dark cherry , some blackberry and spiced raspberry too. Earthy , mineral twist on the finish . Polished tannins and well judged acidity , even at 14o alcohol there is no heat , only roundness . Balanced acidity and long , sappy finish , mixed with summer fruits, floral with a lightly toasty hint . Very young , fruit dominated but enjoyable none the less , a great life ahead . This really improves with air becomes more mineral and earthy , showing more backbone and tannin , but always remaining complete and balanced . Come back in 5 years or so , will drink well a further 5-10. Very promising, and a great experience. — 3 months ago

You know how they say wine is for sharing… shared well.

So much more than expected! Poised and polished, unfolding dark cherry, black plum, and cocoa, framed by fine tannins, savory oak, and a beautiful, effortless balance that lingers like good company long after the glass is empty.
