Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

Came away somewhat disappointed, but upon further reading, likely because I didn’t know the house style. Structure was still kicking for an 01. Nose was beautiful, but wine lacked a richness and body I was hoping for. Austere. Bordeaux clearly has more range and I have more to learn :-). Drank alongside beautiful wagyu in Kyoto — a month ago

Bollinger

La Grande Année Brut Champagne Blend 2004

Christmas lunch date at V. Mertz. Disgorged January 2013. No formal notes. Rich in style with bruised apple, brioche, honey and some nutty, oxidative notes too. Zippy acid still. A truly wonderful way to close out the meal. — 4 years ago
