Herbal aromas (typically Margaret River) with Geranium Capsicum and a touch of menthol. Some green notes - medium weight. Savoury wins out over Cassis and black fruits. Not in the upper echelon of Margaret River Cabernet. Just a silver medal. We went to the Cellar Door some years ago and the story goes that the Reserve Cab was served at the wedding of Prince Frederick of Denmark to Sydney Real Estate agent Mary Donaldson originally from Tasmania now Crown Princess Mary and one day will become the Queen of Denmark. Fred is a keen sailor who was representing Denmark at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and they met at Sydney hotspot The Slip Inn where Fred was flashing his Black AMEX so the story goes and was captivated by Mary and the rest is history. — 7 years ago

Tobacco, leather, meatiness on the nose. This is a man's wine! Alcohol is strong in the final notes. 16%!!!
A drunken pool of blackberry and boysenberry liquor fills the palate, with white pepperiness and an astringent finish.
A slow sipper that draws you to embibe faster than advised. 0 to drunk in 20 minutes if you're not careful! — 8 years ago

Blackberry jam and lingering campfire incense nose. Pie. Pie. Blackberry Pie. Crusty and crumbly and baked to perfection. Berries burst upon lips' touch. Dessert in a glass, but by no means sweet. Highly astringent, succinctly slicing that pie on the finish.

Chocolate and leather envelope mounds of leafy cherry compote across the nose. Dark and earthy yet fruity enough without crossing the line of sweet. Earthy spiced inky berries emerge as the bottle breathes. A bigger bolder version of a Northern Rhône’s production. — 8 years ago

Camping with my daughter on Catalina island. I grew up in Colorado so the silver bullet and the banquet beer were staples in my family home. Heck I hit on Pete Coors daughter in high school, she turned me down more times than the sheets at the holiday inn. Ahh sweet memories. Did you know Coors was heavy into ceramics?? Go check it out. Earthy baked blueberry-boysenberry sauce smothers the senses. On the palate we are enveloped in a robe of silky tannins and astringent tart forest berries. Earthy herby goodness coats and tames young jam even in the '12 vintage.

I dare you to smell this and tell me you don't wish you had a fat juicy slice of boysenberry pie in front of you. This big boy packs and delivers. No wimpy wine here. Big, bold, in-your-face acidic, iron-fisted dark fruit. Not the fruity jammy zin of northern Cali. This is Italy on steroids. — 8 years ago
