Don’t be an idiot. This wine is amazing. — 2 years ago
Wow. Just perfect. Amazing off the bat.
Nose: slate made form yellow flowers. As this opens more serious.
Palate: simply perfect. That balance you get only in great wines. The density you only get in grand cru wines. Terrific brightness. Multi spectral inner mouth aromatics. Infinite almost. Sorry. Balance is perfect. If this had a bit more florality on the internal aromatics it would be a 10. It’s that good.
As I enter my senescence I am trying to be tactful Otherwise I would say you are an idiot if you not drinking grosses gewachs. This was like $50. Worth $200. At least.

OK…been quite a while since my last Carlisle…Idiot…simply nothing better on a warm summer evening than Smash-Burgers and kick-ass Zin. Smooth, silken blackfuited glory. 15 ABV? Shit yeah when the fruit is so gloriously presented. Pure juicy goodness… still too young, but oh so deeply satisfying. Note to self: open more Carlisle… young, old, who cares? — 3 years ago
100% knowingly opened this wine too early, but I couldn’t help myself. It’s one of my favorite California wines, and 2018 was such a spectacular vintage I couldn’t wait to see what Que Syrah Sera. And boy oh boy this is an epic wine in the making. It’s still incredibly “primary” but gives every indication that it will blossom into a mind-blowing wine. Right now it smells of bloody meat and thyme and forest floor. In the mouth deeply stony flavors of cassis and blackberry are shot through with potash and chopped green herbs while a gorgeous green olive / dirty martini salinity lingers in the finish with a grapey fruit that says “you idiot, if you’d just waited a year or two....” I don’t regret it though. Another winner from @duncanarnot and crew. — 4 years ago
Blind tasting no5. And I royally effed this up. Fought bitterly about Syrah and reluctantly settled on a young left bank Bordeaux. So far off…
Slightly cloud and dull purple colors should have led me away from anything with Cab. Heavy extraction and moderate intense nose of blueberry muffins. (Spice, vanilla, blue fruit.) Also strong talcum and baby powder. Dry with lower tannins and only medium acidity. Quite full body. Baked fruits and baking spices, with chalk and a looonnng finish. Bordeaux? I’m an idiot. — 2 years ago
I’m a bit jaded and it takes a lot to wow me but this wine stopped me in my tracks. Stunning. I was going to add it to the champagne thread but it deserves its own. Sarah and others have touted this wine. Rightfully so. Guys at the Wine Ex used to call it affectionately “Ugly Idiot,” and it’s anything but.
Color is very light pink, lighter than many rosés but nose is full and even explosive. Reminds me of the Dujac equivalent of champagne. On the palate, the red fruits are amazing. Layers of high-toned strawberry, incredibly juicy, with lift. Not at all oxidative, Clean and fresh, it is gorgeous wine. Very intense. Very long. Very fine indeed. — 3 years ago
Well.... I’m an idiot. I opened this way to early, but was so curious. It’s a bit closed at the moment (not surprisingly at its age), olive tapenade, dried herbs, plum, dusty minerality, chalk, vanilla, big tannins and noticeable alcohol. Again, my bad for not waiting, will be awesome. — 5 years ago

Monday night pull. Idiot friend wanted wine with burgers. He said “it’s red meat”. Meh, rather have a coke. Good juice. Cork was soft. Enjoyable but maybe better sooner? I won’t know. — a year ago
