It seems to me that if you blended Weiss Burgunder and Grau Bergunder it would be similar to this.
Natural-esque - on the edge for my tolerance to natty-ness; earthy, mushroom, wet wood. 6 years might have been a wee long to wait. — 2 years ago
A very atypical vintage of this wine. Really almost no fruit.
Very Petrolly. Dense. Mineral. More like rich gutedel. Great texture. A hint of apricot if you think about it. Maybe some mead. Good vivacity. Almost a hint of oxidation like in a Jura wine.
Very interesting geek wine. You get a very mineral wine with depth but almost no fruit. Not sure I’ve ever had a wine Iike this.
Would be amazing with chicken in model cream sauce.

A brilliant Gutedel. Nose is smoke, mineral, leather and spice. Peach and melon. After air Huge spice and almost potpourri. So pure. So clean. Wonderfully expressive. Palate is super fresh and clean. Dazzling freshness and so so so drinkable. Wow. Amazing cut and clarity. Great fruit which is unusual for Gutedel. Peaches and apricots and a hint of bitter green fruits. So so well made. A masterpiece dare I say. Terrific acidity and so pure. Sappy. This is so great. — 6 years ago

Apple and yellow peach nose. Much improved over last time with age. Very special indeed. In the glass orange rind, quince, apricot pits it's just unique different and special. Florian one of the winemakers was right this needed time. It's unreal that Gutedel or Auxerrois can have that much taste 🍷🍷🍷The best white from E&M. — 10 years ago

Rich fruity with some bitterness. Wiengut Jauslin Muttenz Gutedel = Shasselas from Basel @7029, Dmar, 241007 — 2 years ago
Super floral, almost comical, super expressive nose, orange citrus, outrageous nose, great palate which is all gutedel, juicy so clean. Wow.

Another great vintage of a very overlooked Gutedel. Nose is superb. Lots of complex minerality. Herbs and subtle spice. Lanolin and a wonderful windy airiness. So pretty. Reminds me of a lean Jacquere from Savoie. Just killer. Smells like a scene in nature. Standing on a clearing in a forest overlooking a beach with the wind blowing the detritus. What a wonderful smell. Some peach skin if you really are looking for fruit. Chasselas in general has no fruit to speak of. Palate is wonderful. Big time structure and density with intense minerality and sap. Very fresh, very pure, with such a nice core of minerals. Like liquid rocks. Some herbs and some sort of umami flavor. This is so clean and so pure. Long finish. Like way longer than it should be. Easily best Gut&Edel I’ve had from Max. What a wine and what a finish. A true sum of its parts wine.
Acid gets more metal as this airs. Nose becomes more floral and also herbal. Truly wow. Almost a 9.5. So intense and tangy. Some intense high acid grapefruit confectionary goodness! — 4 years ago

This is a new sample from Max Geitlinger. It’s a white blend of grapes. Not sure what. Likely Muller-Thurgau and Gutedel. 1,000 bottles made. Sick nose. Clean depth and also some intense minerality and lanolin. Spiced apple. So clean and really jumps out of the glass but has serious depth. Palate is a joy. Full of grapefruit and some apricot with great freshness. Good sap and purity. Long. Balanced. This is a really great knock back summer white. Great concentration. This is like the platonic ideal of a quaffer. — 6 years ago

Essentially Chasselas, Fendant. Called Gutedel in Baden/Germany. Remarkable 10.5%. Dry crisp and juicy. I am biased. Have been to Staufen and i believe Baden is really the most interesting Wine Region in the World almost everything grows from Syrah, Pinot, Syrah, Muscat and more. Gutedel is a wine one drinks almost out of a Stein. A wine for the masses. This example is more nuanced with a touch of raw hazelnut, hint of lemon 🍋, hint jasmine and almond blossoms. Hint Brett. Robust and delicate at the same time. Depends on your mood I guess and ones mood in the moment. 30$ in the US over there often <10Euro. Give it air! 15 min in the glass. Warm it up a little. It turns into a beauty with notes of orange blossoms. — a year ago

Nice mineral taste, great spring/summer wine to light pasta meals — 6 years ago
This needed to warm up from its stay in the fridge, and also needed air. Then the nose shows intense, almost pungent, minerality, and something that reminded me of day-old roast chicken pulled out of the fridge. Let’s call it a “poultry note.” Very lean and minerally in the mouth. No fruit. Short finish. Not my cup of tea. I haven’t had a Chasselas (Gutedel) in decades, and it’s really not my cup of tea, so I can’t rate this.
UPDATE: Night 2. Significantly friendlier and less quirky. Getting a little bruised pear along with much more settled minerality in the nose. A note of light honey. Softer and lengthier in mouth. Very bright and pure. Now that it’s making sense to me, I’m go giving it a numerical rating. — 7 years ago

Pinotman /// Andreas
Wine tasting at Ziereisen. In Baden Effringen-Kirchen. Without doubt one of the top 10 winemakers in all of Germany and perhaps in the top 100 in the world. Went through all of his portfolio. This entry level Chasselat aka Gutedel was lemon driven mostly. Fantastic intro to the grape. And relatively inexpensive. — 15 days ago
