Griotte Chambertin

Clos St. Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Medium ruby garnet , garnet rim . This has a spiced , slightly smoky red cherry , raspberry and rose notes , elegant and perfumed. On the palate this is very refined , with sweet red fruits , raspberry , cherry , light touches of sous bois , velvety tannins and bright acidity . Good density and excellent balance , good saline , mineral edged length . This is really open and aromatic , velvety , and so well balanced ,a model of elegance and purity . This just got better and better with more time in the glass . Drinking well now , though still very fruit forward not showing a lot of development, and I would imagine it will continue well over the next 10 years . — 18 hours ago

Clos des Ruchottes Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2001

2001 vintage. Not decanted. Nice fill and cork. Youthful nose of eucalyptus/spearmint and orange peel. Medium-medium heavy body. Just so fresh. Tasted more like a 3-4 year old Burg instead of a 24 yo one. Excellent length of finish filled with sandalwood/tree bark, clove, cinnamon and raspberry. This specimen needed another 15-20 years to “grow up.” 05.28.25. — a month ago

Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2016

When you see “Trés Vieilles Vignes” scripted across the top of the bottle, you gotta wonder how old is “very old”. Welp…how about 120+ years. Easily some of the oldest in Burgundy. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin “Trés Vieilles Vignes” pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart; red and black fruits: Marionberries, pomegranate, bruised strawberry, roses, sous bois, mushrooms, and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is the kind of experience you want in Grand Cru burgundy. There’s so much concentration and balance. A brilliant wine. Drink now through 2046+. — a month ago

@Daniel M believe it or not, phylloxera had already arrived in Burgundy. These belong to some of the first grafted vines. Still…pretty remarkable
