Domaine de Font-Sane

Tradition Gigondas Grenache Blend 2023

A surprisingly gorgeous evening in DC tonight at a favorite classic bistro. This Giggie has loads of ripe fruit, but is drinking really well already. Very soft, decent acids. Some savory notes. The alcohol (15%) pooks through on the back half of the palate. But it was served a little warmer than I’d like, so that probably amplified it. — 2 months ago

@Tom Casagrande, I *think* the 2022 CdR from this producer was one of the Mystery Rhônes I purchased from a certain purveyor where you and I had a back and forth about undisclosed ABV. Glad to read here that you purchased, from wherever, a newer vintage from the same producer that also is 15% or higher!! 🤔🤷🍷

@Doug Powers.- I ordered it off the restaurant’s wine list. I suspected it would be 15% because that’s pretty much the norm these days for Gigondas. I held out a smidge of hope it would be less but was prepared to accept it anyway if was 15. I drink significantly fewer CDPs and Giggies than I used to these days because they’re just not as enjoyable in my view as they used to be.

Lucien Albrecht

Albrecht Tradition Réserve Crémant d'Alsace Chardonnay Blend

Tried new batch. Lucien Albrecht pioneered Crémant production in 1971 and helped gain an Appellation Contrôlêe for the wine and for Alsace. Pale lemon color, fine bubbles with a light creamy mousse and aromas of fresh stone fruit with biscuit scents. On the palate ripe apple, citrus and peachy flavors with nice mineral tones, dry with vivid acidity. Lingering finish with good balance ending with fruit, slight mineral and yeast tang. Excellent value as a Champagne alternative! Consistent quality. — 4 years ago

Cantina Terlan

Tradition Alto Adige Pinot Bianco 2022

This wine has a pale yellow color with a greenish tint. The nose is amazing, full of minerality and salinity, with citrus, apple, and pear notes. The palate is loaded with minerals, too, and that beautiful, salty flavor. The acidity is invigorating, and the finish is lengthy. The winery suggests pairing with a wide variety of foods, including seafood, scampi, salads, even spaghetti carbonara. I had mine with a chicken salad sandwich, and again with some Rancho Gordo beans and rice. It was a great fit both ways. — 5 months ago

Bosquet des Papes

Cuvée Tradition Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2022

Reddish in color with medium intensity

Fruity nose and medium in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate and complex.

Showing raspberries, cherries, spices, light oak ,chocolates and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This young Grenache blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape is starting to drink nicely, but needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years.

Showing good structure and very spicy.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime.

Good by itself as a sipping wine.

A blend of 75% Grenache, 12% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 3% of local grapes. Aged for 18 months in large French oak barrels.

15% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$40.

Château de la Gardine

Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvée Tradition 2015

2015 vintage. Not in the same league as the 2016 and 2017, but nevertheless an attractive wine. Golden yellow. Honeyed nose with subtle hints of rosemary and fresh mint. Round mouthfeel, lacks a bit of tension, but charming. Good spicy length. — 4 years ago
