Gabriel Billard

Domaine Billard-Gonnet

Chaponnières Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2019

Lighter medium body over pale burgundy color, with purple hues deeply embedded within. Took a while to open up, but once the nose started opening up the ripe red fruit, crunchy acidity and notes of bark, plum, leeks, and cracked pepper started to show. The palate is deep and old world, with hints of earth, smoke, even some BBQ sauce. Main palate is cranberry, tart cherry, and dark plum, with a LOT of energy and life, with some bramble, and really, this could age for another 40 years or more easy. — 4 months ago

Domaine Monpertuis Secret de Gabriel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2010

Super dusty, would have pegged it for much older. Wet leather, cedar, and cloves. Tasty, but shouldn’t sit for much longer. — 3 years ago

"St. Mapalis" Plan de Dieu Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhone Blend 2023

Nose: cooking spices, peppers, dark berries.

Taste: nice acidity, peppers (dry, not sweet), savoury spices (I do get the paprika claimed on the label!), dark berries, beeswax. Not my preferred style but well made — and paired well with tacos! 89.

Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2022

2022 vintage. Tasted via Coravin. Beautiful coloration afoot. Whoa. This is immediately popping. Gorgeous synthesis of fruit, oak and acidity. 2nd best Chassagne I’ve had in the last year but it’s oh so close to 1st place and Chassagne is my fave white Burg stomping grounds. Enduring finish. Picked up 35 bottles at $77.70 a btl resto cost so we’ll have it a while. It’ll be on the front lines during the holidaze tho. 10.16.25. — 6 months ago
