Tua Rita

Redigaffi Rosso Toscana Merlot 2005

100% Merlot from Maremma - coastal Tuscany. Red plums, pipe tobacco and spices as aromatics. On the medium bodied palate savoury red fruits with spices. Drinking this after most pro tasters had closed the drinking window but this is still holding up. It might have been slightly fresher and better a year or two ago but still quite good. One of the 1001 wines. 14.5%ABV - up there for a European red. I will have my last one by the end of the year 2025. — 2 days ago

Marcio Lopes

Proibido Grande Reserva Douro DOC 2013

Blend of multiple indigenous varieties (Donzelinho, T. Francisca, Alvarelhão, Sousão, etc.) from old vines in Vila Nova de Foz Côa in Douro Superior (Upper Douro), not far from the Spanish-Portuguese border (La Raia, an area known for its smuggling past. Hence the name). Aged in used oak barrels for 15 months. Intense nose with aromas of dark fruit, prunes, chocolate and some spices. Powerful, full-bodied. Despite the 15% alcohol it feels quite fresh. Elegant. Polished tannins. Great at almost 10 years — 3 years ago

Quinta de Foz de Arouce

Vinhas Velhas de Santa Maria Vinho Regional Beiras Baga Red Blend 2005

80% Baga with 20% Touriga National blended in. Only made in select vintages. Dark ruby color throughout. Bright and concentrated red fruit notes on both the nose and palate. Hints of red flowers, baking spices, minerals, garrigue and tobacco. Extremely long finish. Beautiful balance even at 18 years of age. Acidity and tannins have harmonized beautifully. Fresh tasting and still quite powerful. I do not understand why the Baga grape has such a poor reputation. Every Quinta de Foz de Arouce wine made from this grape that I have had the pleasure of tasting has been exceptional. — 2 years ago

Duemani

Toscana IGT Cabernet Franc 2005

This is as great Tuscany can get - 100% Cabernet Franc, with beautiful fruit, very dark appearance, dark cherry, herb and chocolate flavours. Duemani refers to the two hands of Luca d’Attoma, oenologist also known from Tua Rita and Le Macchiole, two other great Tuscany estates. Prices have almost doubled since 2005, but this wine is worth it! — 3 years ago
