This wine was a knockout. It might be the second best dry Riesling I’ve had from the Finger Lakes. Would pair perfectly with oysters because of the pronounced salinity. This new offering from Forge Cellars continues to confirm my thought that Cab Francs are leading the way in single varietal reds from this region. Notes of ripe, lush fruits including blackberry, cherry and raspberry, as well as non fruit aromas smoke, earth and clove. This wine was really mouthwatering and delicious.

Another wine from my mixed case of Finger Lakes wines. I’m really trying to get a sense of where the region is at right now in terms of quality and grape varietals. This single vineyard offering from Forge Cellars is definitely the best Pinot Noir I’ve had from the FLX region. It’s Burgundian in style with tart and tangy red fruits like raspberry and crabapple, baking spices, shale and freshly turned soil. You really get a sense of the terroir of the Liedenfrost Vineyard. The acid on this wine is medium plus, with medium body, finely grained tannins and a long elegant finish. Really beautiful wine. — 18 days ago

Another wine from my mixed case of Finger Lakes wines and my first ever from Forge. I’m a fan of wines from Tango Oaks, so I was excited to try this. The nose was muted with only slight notes of rose, red fruits and spice. The palate was definitely more interesting. Crunchy, fresh red berries that were juicy and succulent (tart cherry, cranberry and raspberry) with non-fruit notes of
rose, gravel, underbrush and baking spices.
Medium plus acid, medium tannin, medium body and a medium plus finish. You could tell this wine is well made, but it might need a few years to really come together. — 2 months ago
