Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

This was decanted in a cool wine cellar close to 12 h before we enjoyed it. It is very aromatic and inviting. Layered with dark fruits, pencil lead, five spice, nutmeg, preserves, orange peel, menthol and more. Great posture. Only 13,5 abv. — 2 months ago

Chappellet

Grower Collection Calesa Vineyard Five Blocks Petaluma Gap Chardonnay 2022

Medium lemon color with aromas of stone and citrus fruits and floral spice notes. On the palate flavors of apple, apricot, melon and lemon citrus, vanilla and toasty spice, rich texture. Medium+ finish, lively acidity, ending with fruit, oak, toasty spice and citrus character. — 4 days ago

Chateau St. Jean

My second bottle of five. This better than the first. I can tell you I didn’t pay $150 as shown on Delectable.

The nose reveals floral; blackberries, black raspberries, dark dry cherries, poached strawberries, some raspberries & blueberries. Soft baking spices-clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanillin, steeped tea, dry top soil, crushed, powdery limestone/sandstone, dry crushed rocks, whiff of pepper, mixed darker berry licorice/cola, forest floor w/ dry leaves, bay leaf, old, used leather, dry tobacco w/ some ash, dry brush/tumbleweed, spice, withering yet brightly floraled, red, dark, blue and liquid violets.

The palate fruits are, still ripe & juicy; floral; blackberries, black raspberries, dark dry cherries, poached strawberries, touch of purple fruits, some raspberries & blueberries. Soft baking spices-clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanillin, steeped tea, celery, dry top soil, crushed, powdery limestone/sandstone, dry crushed rocks, hints of pepper, mixed darker berry licorice/cola, forest floor w/ dry leaves, bay leaf, old, used leather, dry tobacco w/ some ash, mushrooms tones, muddy grey volcanics & clay, dry river stone, dry brush/tumbleweed, spice, withering yet brightly floraled, red, dark, blue and liquid violets, rainfall acidity, the finish is amazingly well structured & tensioned, balanced, elegant, nicely polished finish that lasts minutes falling onto spice & minerals.

Style & age 94. Technically 93.

Cain Vineyard & Winery

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2009

1.5 hour decant(decent chunky sediment). A majestic deep purplish magenta color with a little bricking. Always have a soft spot for aged Cain Five and Chris's old school savory style(embrace a little brett!). On the nose: stunning nose of worn leather, funky wet earth, red fruit, touch of menthol, nutty. Taste: Restrained, silky, elegant, balanced wine with dusty earth, herbaceous, currants, plum, cedarwood, and peppery dark chocolate medium finish. YUM! Hitting its stride with time to go. — 6 months ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

1989 vintage. Tasted 5.5.23 (9.5), 4.4.23 (6 different btls-avg 9.4) and 12.9.22 (9.6). Above average fill for the age and impressive cork (about 70% saturated). Decanted and tasted over the course of two hours. Threw a decent amount of powdery sed. Medium nose slightly muted for the first 10 minutes or so but then came roaring to life. Yes, still the hallmark blueberries and cocoa powder along with a dash of raspberry but bigg graphite with this bottle. Drank consistently great for 1.75 hours, then seemed to lose a little steam at the very end. Not improving but still think cellar dwellers need to be popped in the next five years to enjoy the magic before it fades. 3.28.24. — 22 days ago
