Tenuta Monolo

Riserva Bramaterra Nebbiolo Blend 1989

Last of my bottles & a bit sad to see it go- these were soulful wines, demanding not just in managing & extracting their corks but in leaning in to taste what they have to say. After a double decant & cheesecloth/strainer, tasted over 2 days, using a half bottle for day 2. What I loved was the wholeness & evocativeness of the wine, with all the parts having melded; fairly closed on nose but by day 2 old forest floor, rose hips, & black tea leaves; on palate all that & rose petals, dried cherries. The drinking window is closing as previous Delectable users have noted, but what a cool sunset. — a month ago

Good question: a previous Delectable review said 60% Nebbiolo / 20% Croatina / 10% Vespolina / 10% Uva Rara but I think that’s the portion of grapes planted in the vineyard, not the wine. But I’ll stick with those proportions!!@Joshua Fisher !bb

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

Poor vintage great bottle. Should last easily another 10 years. See also Eric Asimov‘s review of most notable bottles of 2021 in the NYT. — 3 years ago

UV-SL Vineyard Chardonnay 2014

I see that I rated this wine in September 2022. I am sticking with that rating. A stunningly delicious wine. A nice Christmas Eve treat. — 11 days ago

When they say bring your A game you can think of this bottle. This is an amazing glass of wine. It benefits from decanting for a good bit. Upon opening I thought of dusty plum and cedar on the nose. Tasting brought plum, currant, blackberries, vintage leather plus an array of other items indicative of this style of big wine. There is a good mix of tannins and acid that makes this a classic great glass of wine. I want to try it again in a few years to see how much better it may get. — 3 years ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Medium ruby , terracotta /garnet rim. Quite round and ripe , red plum , cigar and ripe blackberry, touch of soy . Touch of cocoa , blackberry and ripe dark cherry , black tea . Quite sweet , rich on the palate, generous for Las Cases , slightly dried fruit , fig and red plum . Pretty decent length , balanced but quite discreet acidity , rounded tannins . This is at peak now and I don’t see much up side from here , so best to drink over the next 5 years or so, though it did hold up in the glass quite well . Atypical for Las Cases with its ripe fruit, quite low acidity , sweet tannin: also this only has 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. Overall probably the least successful of the wines in this tasting , but the level overall was very high. — a month ago

Dominio de Pingus

Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2015

Crazy weekend and another crazy wine. Didnt see this coming. I always imagined this wine tasting completely different...massive and concentrated. In truth it was insanely smooth and silky...balanced and rounded. Nothing massively showy or crazy...just perfect refinement. An amazing experience — 8 months ago
