Light in colour with green-silver shine.
Nice reduction in the nose with toasted sesame, salty popcorn, ripe yellow peach and exotic fruit + a whiff of herbs. Fresh & juicy.
On the palate this is nicely rounded with layers of fresh peaches & pineapple and salty, mineral notes.
This has nice depth & complexity yet remains elegant & is (already) drinking beautifully. But I’ll stock up & see how it evolves.
Südsteiermark is becoming my go-to destination for Chardonnay, next to southern Baden & Pfalz (Burgundy becoming too expensive) — 5 years ago

This is Siggenthaler (Weingut Erwin Umbricht-Jung).
Pinot Noir, Fluh AOC.

13.1% ABV.
Finished with a screw cap this initially showed some reduction upon opening and the wine seemed almost diluted.
On day 2 the reduction has blown off and the palate is way more balanced and concentrated.
Please don’t overlook Swiss red wines, especially with some age.

Fresh sweet cherries and raspberries with floral overtones and a warm whiff of Mediterranean herbs. Smooth on the palate, with dusty, finely grained tannins, juicy cherry acidity and a mineral, earthy undertone to the ripe, succulent fruit. As elegant as a good Burgundy, yet unmistakably Blaufränkisch from Burgenland. Very fine. — 8 years ago
