Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Nose : cherry flower. Cherry. May be mildly corked. Fuck. God hates us all. No. Just sorta closed and a bit old library. Not sure it has the aromatic gorgeousness to get it to a 9.5. 3 hours in gorgeous. Cherry flower. Some dried rose. Lovely.

Palate: fresh cherries. Lovely juiciness. A hint of that Burgundian water on hot brick. As it opens starting to get that sweet cherry licorice thing. A mountain stream of cherry licorice on the finish. As it opens really lovely (I like that). 3 hours in hits a 9.5.

Langhe Nebbiolo 2018

Astringent and out of balance, perhaps an off bottle. Bramble rhubarb and hay with green leaf notes... not typical for Nebbiolo. This wine doesn’t fall into the almost-Barbaresco Langhe wines, nor does it hit the fruit-forward Beaujolais-style Langhe wines of other producers (Elio Altare, etc). The price is right at Costco... This was a delicious fastball right down the middle of the plate, as far as Barolo goes…and when considering that we’re working with the 2014 vintage, this was especially noteworthy. Dark cherry, alpine herbs, tar, minerals, and black licorice were predominate. A long, lip smacking finish. Again, worked really well with the bison tartar and duck frites. — a month ago
