What an incredible second day here in Napa. Jesus started us off with an amazing tasting at Davies/Schramsberg, Crocker & Starr gave us our cab franc fix, Montagu & Addax put on a double tasting, and Hourglass knocked it out of the park at the end of the day! I won’t post each wine we tasted, but I’ll highlight the best from each spot.
@jesus g was a killer host. He opened up some older sparklers to compare against new releases as well as poured some very impressive JDavies reds, including the Diamond Mtn Cab. This JSchram Reserve ‘08 though was on a different level. Honeyed almond, apricot, lemon curd. Texture and acidity were seductive at 10yrs old. Happy to have one tucked away for the foreseeable future. Legit, @jesus g ! — 2 years ago
Theorem Voir Dire is a relatively newer wine made by Thomas Rivers Brown or as some of us refer to as TRB. TRB makes or has made a number of wines which include; Chiarello, Outpost, Schrader, Aston Estate, Boars’ View, Maybach, Rivers-Marie, Seaver Vineyards, Hestan, Casa Piena, Saunter, Wallis, Black Sears, Harris Estate, Kinsella, Jones Family, Travail, Stone the Crows, Pulido-Walker, Post Parade, Riverain, Shibumi Knoll, Hobel, Revana, Ampère, 4 Winds, the Grade, Round Pond, Senses, Mending Wall, Sodhani, Vermeil, Gemstone, and QTR. TRB has made at least 25 💯 point wines in his career.
If you love a big, bold, brooding, luxurious, gorgeous, sexy Cabernet, as Val Kilmer said, in “Tombstone” “I’m your huckleberry”, (2013 Voir Dire).
Its color is dark and well extracted. The nose reveals, rich, ruby lush, fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, concentrated blueberries, black plum, plum, dark cherries and an array of purple fruits. Vanilla, cinnamon, clove, mocha powder, dark chocolate, mellow dark spice, black licorice to anise, sweet tarriness, saddle-wood, rich, dark soil, dry crushed rock powder, limestone volcanic minerals, nice subtle herbaceous notes, very dark fresh & withering dark florals, violets and lavender.
The body is big, bold lush, ruby, and deeply concentrated with big dark, tarry, sticky, well rounded, meaty tannins. The ripe, lush, rich fruits are beautiful and well extracted. The structure is big as is the tension. It has long length and beautiful balance. Ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, concentrated blueberries, black plum, plum, dark cherries and an array of purple fruits. Vanilla, cinnamon, clove, mocha powder, dark chocolate, caramel, mellow dark spice, black licorice to anise, sweet tarriness, saddle-wood, rich, dark soil, dry finely crushed rock powder, limestone volcanic minerals, nice subtle herbaceous notes with very dark fresh & withering florals, violets and lavender. The acidity is round and nicely done. The long, elegant, beautiful, richly concentrated finish is superb and it persists for minutes.
It is through @Isaac Pirolo who has recently become their VP of Sales & Marketing, I became familiar with their wines and thank him for arranging our visit.

Diamond Unicorn American Douple IPA 7.8% ABV by Lone Pine Brewing Company Portland, ME — 5 months ago
Very dark color with a hint of purple. Smooth dried fruit aroma. Immediate prune/dried cherry flavor coats the mouth, it's pleasantly slightly sweet with a little smokey dryness that quickly gets replaced by a sweet anise spice note that lingers for a long while. Medium amount of tannins adds a great and necessary texture to offset the slightly sweet flavor profile. Absolutely in love with this wine, especially for the price. I got it on sale for $12 but it tastes like it's worth at least double that. — 6 months ago
Dark tary cassis, blueberries, stewed plums, black raspberries, dry floral bouquet, herbs, milk & dark chocolate, coffee grounds and underbrush on the nose. The fruits melt in your mouth upon entry. The fruits are full and round. Blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, dry plum and ripe slightly juicy raspberries. There is a strong sense of dark barrel toast as I taste a fair amount of sawdust & baking spices. This couldn't have been in bottle very long. Mocha power & milk chocolate follow. Then, herbs dominated by sage, dry coffee grounds, dry dusty brown soil with crushed volcanic rocks, graphite, leather, dry florals. Tannins are still chewy. It's such a baby. This wine has all makings of a cult Cabernet. It's has great structure, length balance and nice acidly. However, It shouldn't be opened for 10+ years. Its so young, It's hard to score this wine higher than 95 but certainly has the all makings of a 95+. Sodhani's winemaker is Thomas River Brown has made 8x 100 point wines in his career. He's made wine for; Outpost, Turley, Schrader, Maybach, Aston Estate, Vieux-Os & Double Diamond. It's certainly worth keeping an on this very young estate. 2013 was their first vintage. Notes from a Coravin tasting.
