Really nice drinking perry. Some residual sweetness, but not overpowering. Not too sweet to drink with a cheese course, but sweet enough to pair with deserts. Would absolutely buy again. — 3 months ago
Gabriel Meffre – “Saint-Ferréol” – Tavel Rosé – 2024, Tavel AOP – Southern Rhône – France 🇫🇷
Overview
A classic expression of Tavel, one of the few appellations in the world dedicated exclusively to rosé. A blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and other Rhône varieties (not disclosed), this style emphasizes structure, depth, and age-worthiness beyond the usual rosé profile.
Aromas & Flavors
Expressive and layered, with ripe strawberry, raspberry, and watermelon, supported by hints of orange peel, dried herbs, and a subtle spicy undertone. More intensity and depth than your typical Provençal rosé.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with noticeable structure and a gentle phenolic grip. Bright acidity keeps it lifted, while the texture adds a slight “bite,” giving the wine presence and persistence through a long, satisfying finish.
Food Pairings
Grilled chicken, Mediterranean dishes, herb-roasted vegetables, charcuterie, or even light lamb preparations. This is a rosé that comfortably steps into red wine territory at the table.
Verdict
A structured and character-driven rosé that stands apart from lighter, more delicate styles. It delivers substance, complexity, and a beautiful finish, perfect for those who want more than just refreshment in their glass.
Did You Know?
Tavel rosés are often called the “rosé for red wine lovers” due to their deeper color, higher structure, and ability to age for several years, something rarely seen in rosé wines.
🍷 Personal Pick
A go-to when I want rosé with backbone, this one brings both freshness and substance, making it incredibly versatile and memorable. Cheers! — a month ago
2023 vintage. Second (white) wine tasted from this producer and second, double thumbs up. Medium body and similarly weighty oak detail. Spicy finish. A little fleshy. A little oaky. A little jicama (!?) and lychee thang just hang(ing) there. Splash of mineral influences. Fairly forward with only one, or two, side quest(s). $64 USD resto cost...pre-tariff pricing. With tariffs? Haha. A few years ago, this woulda been $35-40. Ouch. 3.19.26. — 2 months ago
Gabriel Meffre – “Saint-Nicolas” – Côtes du Rhône AOP – 2024 – Rhône Valley – France 🇫🇷
Overview
A classic Southern Rhône blend, typically led by Grenache with support from Syrah and Mourvèdre, crafted in a style that balances approachability with structure. This vintage leans toward immediate drinkability while still showcasing the character of the region.
Aromas & Flavors
Ripe red berries, plum, and black cherry lead the profile, followed by subtle notes of dried herbs, pepper, and a touch of earthy spice. A hint of juiciness keeps the fruit lively without feeling overly ripe.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with medium-plus tannins that provide gentle grip and structure. Balanced acidity and a smooth texture carry into a well-rounded, satisfying finish.
Food Pairings
Grilled meats, roasted chicken, lamb, herb-driven dishes, or casual fare like burgers and pizza. A versatile, food-friendly Rhône red.
Verdict
Casual yet not understated. This Côtes du Rhône delivers approachability with enough structure to keep things interesting, balanced, easygoing, and reliable.
Did You Know?
Côtes du Rhône wines can include up to 21 permitted grape varieties, but most reds are dominated by Grenache, giving them that signature fruit-forward yet subtly spiced profile.
🍷 Personal Pick
A dependable daily Rhône with just the right amount of grip, easy to enjoy, but not boring. Cheers! — a month ago
This was the white Rhône. — a month ago
2022 vintage. Tasted via Coravin. Beautiful coloration afoot. Whoa. This is immediately popping. Gorgeous synthesis of fruit, oak and acidity. 2nd best Chassagne I’ve had in the last year but it’s oh so close to 1st place and Chassagne is my fave white Burg stomping grounds. Enduring finish. Picked up 35 bottles at $77.70 a btl resto cost so we’ll have it a while. It’ll be on the front lines during the holidaze tho. 10.16.25. — 7 months ago

Gabriel Meffre “Saint-Vincent” Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2024, Rhône Valley, France 🇫🇷
Overview
A classic Southern Rhône white blend that leans casual and food-oriented rather than flashy or intensely aromatic, and this cuvée is typically a blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne, and Clairette. The result is a smooth, lightly stony, and subtly textured white that feels very comfortable at the table.
Aromas & Flavors
Soft white peach, pear, yellow apple, and delicate white floral tones open gently in the glass. Subtle hints of wet stone, citrus peel, and light herbal nuances emerge underneath, keeping the wine grounded and balanced rather than overtly fruity.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with a smooth and approachable texture. There is a gentle tension toward the back palate that adds freshness without becoming sharp. The finish remains subtle, soft, and savory-leaning.
Food Pairings
This is where the wine truly shines. Excellent with roasted chicken, creamy seafood dishes, cod in white wine sauce, grilled vegetables, herb-driven Mediterranean cuisine, or mild cheeses.
Verdict
A very honest and traditional Rhône white that prioritizes versatility and food compatibility over complexity. Not necessarily a “sit and analyze” sipping wine, but a dependable bottle that works beautifully at the dinner table.
Did You Know?
White Côtes-du-Rhône wines represent only a small percentage of total Rhône production, which is why many consumers associate the region almost entirely with reds despite the area producing some excellent traditional white blends.
🍷 Personal Pick
This feels like one of those understated French whites that quietly performs best with food. Casual, stony, smooth, and very easy to enjoy alongside a proper meal rather than on its own. Cheers! — a day ago
