Domaine Vacheron – Sancerre 2015
Loire Valley, France 🇫🇷
Overview
From one of Sancerre’s most respected biodynamic estates, Vacheron crafts Sauvignon Blancs with precision, purity, and unmistakable terroir character. Tasting a 10-year-old Sancerre is rare, as most are enjoyed young—but this 2015 shows surprising resilience and depth.
Aromas & Flavors
Candied lemon peel stands out alongside subtle citrus oil, quince, and a faint touch of almond. The classic flinty minerality of Sancerre still hums beneath, though softened by time. A hint of oxidative nuttiness peeks through—expected with age—but adds intrigue rather than distraction.
Mouthfeel
Mouthwatering acidity remains alive, giving freshness even at a decade old. Medium-bodied, textural, and persistent, finishing with a gentle grip of minerality and citrus zest.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with aged goat cheeses (Crottin de Chavignol is a must), grilled white fish, or even poultry with lemon-herb sauce. Its aged nuance also makes it a fine companion for mushroom risotto.
Verdict
A Sancerre that defies expectations with its longevity. While youth usually showcases sharp vibrancy, this 2015 proves that time can reveal a different elegance: layered, slightly oxidative, yet still minerally precise. A rewarding surprise for anyone curious about how Sauvignon Blanc ages. Cheers! — 9 months ago

Really quite pleasant. Typical light style from Chavignol. Just a touch of sweetness on the back end. Would definitely buy again for the price point. — 6 years ago

Thanks to 2 wine store owners that I became good friends with over the years I’ve had the opportunity to have a good stash of Vatan. For me Vatan is one of those wines that adheres to the cliche, “ there are no great wines just great bottles”. In this instance it was a great bottle. Intoxicating aromas of lychee, lime and florals. One of those wines you’re happy just to smell. There is no disappointment on the palate. Beautiful balance and texture, nothing out of place. Layers of concentrated fruit; mango, green almonds, star fruit and lemons. Ripe fruit that is fresh and managed by the wonderful acid. A finish you never want to end. The only flavor missing, which I often find in Vatan, is “spearmint”. — 2 months ago
Light golden color. Aromas of green apple, white flowers, citrus and a slight hint of freshly cut grass and leafy herbs. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit, green melon and chalky minerality. Medium-plus finish and bright acidity. Medium bodied, silky texture and quite refreshing. Enjoyed at Keith and Karyn’s New Years Day brunch. — 6 months ago
Pascal et Nicolas Reverdy – Sancerre Rosé “Terre de Maimbray” 2016
Loire Valley, France 🇫🇷
Overview
From the limestone-rich slopes of Maimbray, Reverdy crafts this 100% Pinot Noir rosé, showing how Sancerre can shine not only in whites but also in elegant, age-worthy rosés. Though Sancerre is world-famous for Sauvignon Blanc, about 20% of its vineyards are planted to Pinot Noir, which can be vinified as red or rosé. This bottle demonstrates just how gracefully a Loire rosé can evolve with time.
Aromas & Flavors
Wild strawberry, raspberry, and redcurrant with rose petals and dried herbs. With age, subtle tones of candied orange peel and a light spice develop, adding dimension without overpowering.
Mouthfeel
Silky and rounded, with acidity still intact to keep it lively. Medium-bodied with a savory edge, balancing freshness and maturity.
Food Pairing
Perfect alongside charcuterie, grilled salmon, or roast chicken. The evolved texture also makes it a great partner for mushroom risotto or lentil dishes.
Verdict
A rare aged rosé that proves Pinot Noir from Sancerre can deliver both finesse and staying power. Still vibrant after 9 years, this wine highlights Reverdy’s skill and the region’s versatility beyond Sauvignon Blanc. — 9 months ago
Star bright, very pale straw gold. Very inviting nose and medium palate of green apple, citrus rind, and mild chalky mineral. Medium acidity. Ready for your best seafood dishes or soft cheeses. Excellent example of the higher end of Sauvignon Blanc (but at a more midrange price). Drink now through 2024. — 5 years ago
Like a fawn grazing in a field of chamomile. Or some pretty shit like that! While I munch on a ficelle and some salty butter on a red checkered blanket under a tree. — 6 years ago
Light golden color. Aromas of stone fruit, citrus, white flowers and wet stones. Flavors of ripe grapefruit, lemon and white peach fruit, slate and a slight herbal note. Long crisp finish. Bright acidity and dense structure. Food friendly. Still fresh and vibrant. Thanks for sharing, Kase! — 3 months ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2024 “Les Monts Damés” pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with white flowers, grapefruit, star fruit, alfalfa, and cream cheese stuffed poblano pepper. There’s also this Double Bubble thing going on. Wild stuff. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. In a world of increasing ambiguity, I love that this is immediately identifiable as Sancerre. Drink now through 2034+. — 5 months ago
Crisp with lime and green apple over a touch of mineral and slate. — 8 months ago
A darker, deeper Pinot than usual. Smooth and rich. Had it with lamb - highly enjoyable. — a year ago
Blast of freshly mown grass… lime zest, wet stone, and lively acidity. Perfect quaff for quick tropical beach getaway.., shaking my head at all the high end cab being consumed on a warm evening in Anguilla on the beach. This wine reminds me how versatile Loire whites are. Perfect balance if not served too cold. — 3 years ago
On this Wednesday, "Hump Day", I have opened the 2019 Domaine Claude Riffault Sancerre Les Boucauds.
On the nose I am getting lime, white peach, pear, melon, gooseberry, nectarine and minerals.
On the palate is good notes of lime, white peach, grapefruit, pear, minerality and some flinty stone.
This is a beautiful Sancerre medium bodied wine with medium + acidity that moves nicely into a long fresh citrus mineral finish. I hope everyone's week is going well as we continue to move quickly into spring. What a beautiful week we have been having with springtime temperatures. Please stay safe and healthy and enjoy the rest of your week. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 5 years ago

Last had this 10 months ago. I think it's on the decline since then. Grapefruit, melon, citrus. Lacking acidity, it's a bit flabby. That's not what I remember in the last bottle. Anyway, it's nice with some fresh caught walleye.
