The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvée Tradition showcases lovely aromas of honeysuckle, jasmine, grapefruit, lemon, orange peel, melon, vanilla and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant and framed by supple acidity, it can be drunk now but will also develop tertiary notes over the next couple of years. Lurid magenta. Expansive aromas of mineral-tinged red berries, incense and cola, joined by a suave floral nuance as the wine opens up. Appealingly sweet and seamless on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, cherry, spicecake and candied licorice flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes smooth and long, with gentle tannins and lingering floral pastille and star anise notes. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2019)

Very nice Sauternes with delightful balance of fruit, flowers, sweetness and unctuousness, plus sufficient acids to bring it all together. Quite a delicious sipper. This was the very last bottle of Sauternes I could find at my local BevMo in Santa Monica, and it was just a half bottle at that. I should really go back to the Wine House or Wally’s for my wine purchases but this tells me how under appreciated Sauternes is in the U.S. A pity.

Less $$ than most CdP. Definitely recognizable as from its appellation… and a good deal, but, sure, you gotta expect to get no more than you pay for. Less nose than I like. Plenty of heat. Green cerignola olives w/o any brine. Tannic (in a good way for me). Tart red fruits. Bit of gravel juice. A Sturdy wine. Not terribly nuanced. Missing the highlights of many spiky, delicious flavors that all meld together brilliantly of the higher end CdPs, but, hey, i paid half as much as those cost…twice as much as some Côtes du Rhônes which are “correct” yet lack even more nuanced yumminess. I am happy to but this again at this price. — a month ago
