Boars’ View “The Coast” Pinot Noir 2018
Fort Ross–Seaview AVA, Sonoma Coast, California, USA 🇺🇸
Overview
Handcrafted by Thomas Rivers Brown at the dramatic West Sonoma Coast site, this Pinot Noir highlights maritime fog, Goldridge loam soils, and heritage clones. The 2018 “Coast” includes 100% heritage clones—Calera, Mt. Eden, and Swan—meticulously fermented and aged to express both elegance and power.
Aromas & Flavors
Plush and aromatic: expect cranberry compote, lavender, sandalwood, and hints of violet. On the palate, it delivers black cherry, plum paste, nutmeg, quince, forest floor, and licorice—all layered over a finely tuned mineral edge.
Mouthfeel
Full-bodied yet refined. Silky tannins and well-integrated acidity support rich fruit without heaviness. A harmonious finish unfolds with persistence and grace.
Winemaking Notes
Destemmed fruit underwent fermentation and then aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 50% new, from François Frères, Remond, and Gauthier cooperages. The result is focused power with nuanced oak influence.
Food Pairing
Perfect with grilled duck, game birds, roasted pork, or truffle-scented risotto. Its depth and savory complexity also pair beautifully with hearty stews or mushroom-forward dishes.
Verdict
Boars’ View “The Coast” PINOT NOIR 2018 is a masterclass in West Coast Pinot—intensely flavorful, texturally rich, and meticulously crafted. A cellar-worthy wine with both grace and longevity. A rare Napa-level Pinot Noir priced in the $145–160 range. Cheers! — 10 months ago

Dried black cherry w spice. Med + body. Rich long cranberry finish w touch of heat — a year ago
Medium Ruby color with aromas of dark berry fruits with notes of herbs, citrus, herb and spice., a blend from several sites on their Goldridge soils. On the palate flavors of blackberry, ripe strawberry and cherry with espresso, vanilla and herb tea spice, well balanced with acidity. Fine tannins on a long finish ending with cedar, baking spices and earthy character. Very nice! Pair with a grilled Salmon! — 2 years ago
This time around it was quite good with leg of lamb and veggies in Dutch oven! — 3 years ago
Decided to go through my cellar. This is very good for the age, although it did lose some chocolate notes. Still very pleasant to drink and enjoy. — 4 years ago
Bright lemon and mineral nose that follows through on the palette. Chablis like character From a lighter vintage — 3 months ago
2018 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 45 minutes and 1.25 hours. Medium/medium-heavy body. Dropped the overt weight and starting to get more chiseled. The usual fruit and spice suspects without surprises. Would love to hit this in 8-10 years. Too well-balanced currently so it will be a difficult task to accomplish. 01.16.26. — 5 months ago
Soft floral notes followed by bright crushed stones and a soft static like acidity that brings citrus oils on the finish. — a year ago
There’s a lot of cedar and berries with a hint of veg in the nose. The taste showed the same with some sweetness than tannins and some sourness in the finish. I did like this wine but I look at wines in my cellar a bit differently now that I’m over 80 and think I should have drunk this sooner. Still have the 2014 and will get that shortly. If you have any of the 2013 drink up. BTW, did a hard decant about an hour before a Wagyu steak dinner and saw no changes from opening to finishing the bottle.

2018 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 30 minutes and 2 hours. Massive, heavy color and body. Currently monolithic. Solid wall of dark plum. Revisit in a half-decade or give it an agitated decant and let sit for 4-5 hours. 4.17.26. — 2 months ago
