Mad Hatter Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

So good to finally be back on 30A, but specifically at Wild Olives 👏🏻 I’ve always enjoyed Mad Hatter but this bottle was exceptional. — a day ago

Souverain

Sonoma County Pinot Noir 1974

JKT
9.3

Astonishing that this very old wine is drinking just great! The ‘74 Cab from Souverain was my very first early favorite way back then. Got this single sample and figured must be vinegar by now but be good for nostalgia for the long gone vineyard. Instead this is a delightful shock! Labels look great. Cork has top layer of crap but in good shape though the very bottom broke off. Wine has nice garnet color with little hint of its age. Still lively, well balanced and tasty even if not super complex. Nose is just straight out attractive with very ripe dark red fruits as background for the foreground earth and field and hay. No way I’d have guessed 46 year old Sonoma Pinot! Kept sniffing and satisfied even before tasting. Palate is light and lean but still lively and texture is firm and acidic carrying over to good finish. Like an aged but still athletic and elegant ballerina showing off. What a pleasant and memorable shock in these crazy times! Lot of 4 oldies from 70s, Sutter Home Zinfandels (2) Montevino and primarily for these but this Pinot already made it worthwhile for AA20. Adding two to 9.3 for the age! Back label says ‘74 was great vintage and wine ready to drink but will still be good in 3-4 years with proper storage. Ha! Day two still standing strong in Eto and dancing with delight. Enough for one last glass in day or two. Day three drank without food before dinner. Kept sniffing and sniffing. Elegant and complex nose with notes of sour plum and very ripe dark fruits. Only possible in such well aged vino! Memorable. Too bad only bottle. — 21 days ago

Wicked Weed Brewing

COASTAL LOVE IPA

Pale gold pour to hazy grapefruit greyhound, with packing foam white head that breaks down like albumen. Slow and slick. Floral notes of jasmine in grapefruit, lemon blossom, candied lemon and limeade. Awesome lemon entry is steely and silvery mineral sensations dancing arm in arm with grapefruit and lemon citrus, artfully subdued. Meyer lemon pith. What a treat for the coastal elite! Love the early eighties motifs. #wickedweed #coastallove #wickedweedcoastallove #hazyipa #hazy #ipa #indiapaleale #hurricanerelief #NCbeer #AshevilleNC #wickedweedbrewing #beer #bier #biere #birra #cerveza #cerveja #ale — a month ago

Kelsey bench Lake County Old Stake 1901 Vineyard ZINFANDEL BLEND 2018

Perhaps this wine would be better described as a field blend rather than Delectable’s take as being a Zinfandel blend. But, hey...you have to start somewhere; particularly with 8+ varietals in the mix. Paired it up with Armenian chicken Shish Kebab and the usual suspects. Pretty damn perfect. (The wine really shows itself after 30/45 minutes in decanter.) — 2 months ago

Domaine Paul Pillot

Vieilles Vignes Chassagne-Montrachet Pinot Noir 2017

Brilliant ruby with a clear rim and medium viscosity. On the nose, you get fresh red fruits and then straight to spices and wet stones. Confirmed on the palate. Fluttering mouthfeel layered with wild red summer berries dancing with a lively acidity that carries the song through a long mineral finish. Dry wine, medium plus acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol and body. Delightful. — a month ago

Maurice Ecard et Fils

Les Serpentières Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Decanted for 2 hours. Pale purple, clear rim and medium viscosity. On the nose, red fruits - cherries, strawberries, raspberries, wild flowers, spices and chalky minerality coming through. On the palate, a delicate balance of red fruits, spices, dancing acidity, tannins that still very much there and a long finish. This is a complex wine but very well integrated and a pleasure to drink! Will be superb in 5-7 years when the tannins soften to be round and silky and play with the lively acidity adding even more linearity. Nonetheless, this is a good 1er Cru with a good expression of a classic burgundian. — a month ago
