Tonight's wine I have opened the 2015 Albino Rocca Barbaresco.
On the nose there is strawberry, raspberry, black cherry, roses, vanilla and a good earthy component.
On the mlm palate ther is strawberry, raspberry, tart cherry, star anise, spice, mint and good earth.
The wine is medium bodied with a silky mouth feel, medium + acidity and medium fine grippy tannins that lead right into a long fruit filled finish. For this weekend let's all enjoy a nice wine or two and please stay safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 2 days ago
Insane nose. Such an elegant vintage for this. Gorgeous nose of spice and licorice, smoke and oolong tea. Loads of minerals and so inviting. Citrus rind as well. Also melting road tar. Palate is juicy, vibrant and balanced. Terrific cherry fruit and such finesse and refinement. Spice, mid season cherries on the finish. Long finish. Soft tannins and such nice energy. — 10 days ago
Drinking a 20 year old barbaresco automatically means a special night - the som at San Morello (Detroit, MI) delivers every time - incredible wine that has evolved a lot over the past 10 years (we drank a ‘07 too for comparison). Best in class Italian wine list. 🍷❤️👌🏼 — 10 days ago
The 2016 Barbaresco Fausoni is another superb wine in this lineup of 2016 Barbarescos from the Sottimano family. Bright floral and citrus overtones give the 2016 a vibrant, chiseled feel. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol rose petal and lavender are some of the many notes that flesh out in this super-expressive, mid-weight Barbaresco from Sottimano. Aromatically lifted, dense on the palate and also very structured, the 2016 is a very complete Fausoni. The 2016 finishes with tremendous persistence and a classic sense of austerity that is compelling. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2019) — 9 days ago
The 2016 Barbaresco Rabajà is fresh, vibrant and pulsing with energy, all signatures of this important Barbaresco vintage. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, smoke, dried herbs and menthol are all wonderfully alive in the glass. This is such an expressive and vivid wine. Layers of aromatic and flavor intensity really come alive with aeration. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2019) — 9 days ago
The 2016 Barbaresco is a stunning wine with tremendous richness for this bottling. Ample, deep and powerful, the 2016 exudes pedigree and class from start to finish. I can't remember a straight Barbaresco here with this much fruit density and unctuous richness, and yet there is more than enough tannin and overall structure to give the wine its classically leaning feel. A blast of sweet red cherry fruit, tobacco, menthol licorice and smoke hits the potent finish. What a wine! (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2019) — 9 days ago
The nose is incredible: roses, violets, bright red fruit, white pepper, soil. There is definitely a refined tannic structure, yet present with good acidity running down the sides of the mouth. The palate is similar to the nose with a bit more dry stoney earth dusting upfront and more red fruit on the back end. There’s life left in this bottle. I wish I had more. — 8 days ago
