Ronchi di Pietro

L'Anime da Nestre Tiare Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso

Plum, sour cherry, dried herbs, wet rocks, and mushroom. Subtle on the nose but super flavorful. Great with a dinner, and a superb value. — 20 days ago

Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino 2019

Delectable Wine

The 2019 Schioppettino is remarkably pretty and floral, with violets and roses complementing its wild red berries and hints of smoke. This is soft-textured and lifted in feel, yet also packed full of fleshy raspberry fruit, as exotic spices build within. It leaves a tinge of sour citrus while finishing lightly structured and with a staining like liquid lavender. Lovers of Schioppettino will fall head over heels for the 2019. Sol Chardonnay 2020

Delectable Wine

Dusty white flowers and nuances of vanilla bean contrasted by crushed green apple, curry leaf and ashen stone waft up from the 2020 Chardonnay Sol to create a beguiling bouquet. This is a contrasting expression, with ripe fruits and silky textures offset by mineral-tinged acids and hints of sour citrus. It leaves the palate vibrating with tension and refreshed while closing with persistence, as a hint of almond paste lingers. I’m dreaming of white Burgundy while sipping this; yet there’s no need, because the Chardonnay Sol overdelivers. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Ronchi di Cialla

Colli Orientali del Friuli Schioppettino di Cialla 2005

Beautiful aromatics: camphor, incense, fresh fruit. Churchy, in a way, without being musty. Grippy, sappy palate: cherry liqueur, plum, pepper. At once mature and. incredibly fresh. Stunning wine reflective of place & tradition. — a month ago

Colli Orientali del Friuli Schioppettino 2013

A stately, well-structured red from Friuli. This one had the maturity and mellow character of a wine almost a decade old. The tannins, though no doubt softened over the years, provided enough structure to allow this schioppettino to continue ageing, even if only for a couple more years. Blueberries and vanilla were present on the nose, whereas the palate presented flavors of prunes, raisins, plums, and a hint of tobacco. Very happy to have procured this bottle; it was a great pairing for our Easter leg of lamb! 100% Schioppettino. 4/17/22. — 5 months ago

Serena Palazzolo e Figli Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Delectable Wine

The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Serena Palazzolo e Figli is very easy to like. Both spicy and intense, with smoky crushed stone giving way to musky peach and hints of confectionery spice. This washes across the palate, with round yet juicy textures delivering ripe orchard fruits and hints of candied lime. Its stimulating minerality and sour citrus add poise, yet not so much to slow its momentum, as the 2020 finishes long and wickedly fresh. This would make a great gateway wine for lovers of Sauvignon looking to explore Friuli. The Serena Palazzolo e Figli is a blend of fruit from throughout the Ronco del Gnemiz vineyards. Its minerality and sour citrus character keep the experience engaging to say the least. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)
