unctuous but still lively, not fat- lively. meaty, blackberry, more minerals than expected. long tannins. wouldn’t be a wine that I would pick but I really enjoy it. — 6 months ago

D 66 Côtes Catalanes Grenache Blend 2009

Ming L
9.3

As one can expect for a Dave Phinney wine, this is rich and ripe, but it has so much more to offer at year 14. Blueberry, fig, tobacco, cracked pepper, dried mushroom, and slight hint of barnyard. On the palate it’s juicy yet soft and ultra smooth. The finish is long, candied, and earthy.
My 2nd and last bottle. At its peak.

Grande Reserve Blanc de Blancs Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2017

Love, love, love this white! Andy Hall Selection: “Masbon Vouvrey is one of the crown jewels in the Surdyk’s wine department – made only for Surdyk’s by one of the Loire Valley’s top producers. Customers and staff continue to see the beauty and value of this wine. It’s versatile and its popularity surges every year around the holidays – it is simply beautiful and goes with everything, particularly Thanksgiving dinner. Made from Chenin Blanc in ancient vineyards that roll along the hills beside the Loire River in central France, this wine leads with aromatic notes of light spring flowers and fresh hay. The palate is clean and fruit-driving with honeysuckle and pear notes, followed by a soft finish. It’s clean, refreshing, classically French, completely affordable, and yet always a value.

Langhe Nebbiolo 2015

Ripe yet wonderfully fresh red fruits. Loads of power for a Langhe Nebbiolo. Lacks a bit in the complexity department but make no mistake, this is a rocking good Langhe. Delicious. — 6 years ago

Brut Cava Macabeo-Xarel-lo-Parellada

A real competitor in the cava department! Perfectly balanced apple and mineral with that natural, small producer feel. Doesn’t break the bank either! — 3 years ago

Orin Swift Maury 'Fragile' Rose

Fragile - I don't believe it’s pronounced frah-ghee-lay - has a big, bright nose full of big, bright red fruit. A bit of heat pokes its head through, too, owing to the 15% alcohol content. That cherry-red fruit comes through on the palate as well, with a boatload of acidity to boot. The winery notes say Fragile pairs well with lighter fare and warm, sunny days. I'd have it with pork chops in a heartbeat. — 6 years ago
