Château Lascombes

Margaux Merlot Blend 2022

Probably one of the very best Margaux’s I’ve had in a very long time. Drank this at Halls chop house in Columbia SC this weekend. A divine pairing with my dry aged porterhouse 🤤 I wish I had pockets deep enough to drink this one every day. — 9 months ago

Some wine shop described as “blackberry, liquorice, smoke, mint”. Usually find these descriptions BS but this one seemed about right. Really enjoyed this with fatty brisket braised with Mexican flavors. Yum. — 3 years ago

Baby Dominus shows like its bolder brother. Well balanced, full bodied, easy drinking with blackberry, black fruit and Good level of oak. Great alone, even better with a lamb chop. — 8 years ago

It’s worth trying. While Dominus is probably the best wine I have ever had, this is right there for a 1/3 of the price. Love to hear your opinion when you do!

Château Gruaud Larose

Sarget de Gruaud Larose Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1999

Needs a couple hours of air & a few oz of 🥩
K&L notes as follows,

We sell a lot of this favorite second wine and the 1999 is quite elegant, with intense concentration and complexity. Plus, it is drinking well now. This estate is one of K&L’s veteran Bordeaux expert Ralph Sands’ favorites. I just tasted (July 7) another bottle from this recent shipment. Wonderful Bordeaux to drink tonight with a lamb chop. Some smoky aromas with cola and red fruit undertones. Typical, elegant 1999 Bordeaux with a sweet middle palate and smooth finish.

Foradori

Sgarzon Vigneti delle Dolomiti Teroldego 2016

Wildly delicious. Served with mushroom risotto, spinach, & leftover veal chop.
Tastes much weightier than the 12.5%, dark colors, a little tingly on the palate, and fresh.

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2018

Really a lovely brunello. In a perfect place. The fruit is quite expressive and gives a lot. Tannins are certainly there but balanced with great acidity on the finish. Nice suggestion from the bartender at I sodi paired with a pork chop and lamb/mushroom pasta. — 2 years ago

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah 2000

The weekend upon us and we're hosting another dinner party for a couple of friends. Tonight's theme was Rhone wine, so good stuff on deck, with age.

Notes pending... (Entertaining guests first 😉)

Absolutely perfect, yet only coming into it's zone, decade to go here...

Notes from +24H open:
Nose has ripe cherry, dried cherry, dried blackberry, red velvet cake, ripe plum and dry, mineral-ly earth.

Palate has silky-sweet cherry, ripe red currant, (light) cigar wrapper, dried cherry, faint eucalyptus, faint wood notes, dry earth, faint iron notes on the long finish. Mild tannins persist today. Expect to enjoy this vintage another +10Y when held in proper storage.

This bottle was singing at the top of its register last night, slightly diminished today. Absolutely perfect cork, no Durand required for extraction. Acquired a mere two years ago, from a local retailer beginning to close down his shop. He purchased a case on release, stored in his cold cellar; when I got to hunting it only a single bottle remained.

I've had the 2000 vintage before, and it was a treat in a more youthful stage, but a delicacy with our meal last night. We baked a 3lb beef tenderloin (Kinderhook Farm; Valatie, NY) coated in an herb paste then an herbed panko crumb crust with parmesan. About a 50m cook, 30m rest yeilded a perfect 130° center. Served alongside smashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts with thick cut bacon. We had fantastic company, connecting again with a wine trade friend and his wife after a few years break in our dining schedules.

Château Villa Bel-Air

Graves Red Bordeaux Blend

What a great find! Received the 2000 vintage bottle via an exchange in the Bay Area & couldn’t be more thrilled. Usually a North snob, this Product of the Boudreaux region is simply a treat. Not too many in the states left where I shop, so I was able to savior this special number 🙏🌎 — 6 years ago

Long Shadows Vintners

Poet's Leap Columbia Valley Riesling 2017

This is my second favorite food & wine pairing. The two together are a perfect 10. It is simply my favorite pork chop and there isn’t a close second.

This is the Mustard’s Restaurant in Napa recipe which, they have sold over a million.

There are a dozen different seasoning/spices to this two-day pork chop marinade that brings such depth of flavors & complexity to it. The spices penetrate deep onto the palate. The wine marries and complements all those seasonings & spices perfectly with just the right amount of restrained sweetness and texture.

The nose reveals; stone fruits, Meyer lemon, lemon meringue, lime candy, pineapple juice, green melon, applesauce, just a touch of petroleum, honey notes, waxy notes, touch of beeswax, light white spice, chalky saline notes, mixed greens, yellow lilies, jasmine and spring flowers.

The body is thick, rich, lush and waxy. Stone fruits, Meyer lemon, lemon meringue, lime candy, pineapple juice, green melon, applesauce, just a touch of petroleum, honey notes, waxy notes, touch of beeswax, light white spice, chalky saline notes, light, powdery minerals, mixed greens, yellow lilies, jasmine and spring flowers. The acidity is round and beautiful. The finish is; rich, lush, ripe, well balanced, delicious and persists nicely for minutes.

@Shay A Am I tempting you yet?

Photos of; the Long Shadows tasting room (just voted a top ten tasting room), the amazing glass blown artwork all over their tasting room and our dinner with this amazing American Riesling pairing. Green beans from our garden.
