From a bottle that had been opened the day before with half the contents remaining so these notes are from Day 2. The wine pours a deep purple with a ruby rim and a near opaque core. Medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and already brimming with confidence. Bright blue bramble fruits, lavender, black pepper, olive tapenade, some well oiled leather and some baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The body and supple texture is distinctive. The finish is long and satisfying. From a Cornas perspective, this is less wild and more polished but that’s not a slight. This is a beautifully made Cornas from one of my favorite vintages in the Rhône over the last 15 years. — a year ago
Brimming with confidence, doesn't need a label. You know what this is. It's stalwart Sangio - true to its core, to the estate, to the cuvee, sophisticated and deep. Barely stick your nose in and you're hit hard with a mixed bag of the stuff you expect and more - cherries and leather, mint and spruce, dates, raisins. Minerals and a scaffolded structure you gotta work through just a bit, but comes together amazingly well. — 2 years ago
The good whites of Burgundy, aka crack cocaine, are what they are because of great blending - in this case, Pierre Benoist of DRC.
This is special not just for the florals, the woods, the citrus, the spice, but for these things together.
Lemon chamomile and a cedar lined drawer. Vibrant and young with a sturdy back and all the confidence in the world. — 4 years ago

Thought it would be fun to check in on the 2017 "Classico" while I patiently wait for my 2017 Riservas to arrive (long story). Popped and poured; enjoyed over several hours out of Burgundy glasses. In the glass, the wine is deep ruby color with a transparent core. Medium+ viscosity with no obvious staining of the tears. On the nose, ripe cherrys with tar, herbs and organic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium++ tannins and medium+ acid. The fruit set is confirmed and despite the firm structure, comes across almost round and chewy. She thicc. Long finish. The 2017's are drinking well right now and noticeably better than my last note. Have confidence these will drink well through 2032. — 2 years ago
A buddy of mine and I dropped into one of my favorite little cafes in Omaha to get a bite and share a bottle. We grabbed a table and I scampered off to select something from the wall. As I walked over to the Rhone section, I began to scan the labels and about fell over when I saw three bottles of Gonon low-key just chillin…priced under $70. At this point, there was no question what we would be drinking tonight.
Popped and poured; no formal notes. I fully knew this was going to be somewhat considered infanticide but how was I going to pass this opportunity up? The nose is classic Northern Rhone with olives, black pepper, bacon fat and gorgeous blue and red fruits. The tannins are medium+; the acid matches. And the texture? Well, she thiccc but there is a sexy confidence that is enormously becoming. Finish is long and super satisfying. Fun to try young but I expect this to be a very lovely bottle for many years to come. Drink now with some patience (and an open mind) or through 2034 with ease. Oh…and you best believe we took the other two bottles home with us. — 2 years ago
Poured half the bottle into an empty water pitcher about 30 minutes before service and enjoyed over several hours. The 2015 pours a deep ruby with medium+ viscosity and moderate staining of the tears. Some slight signs of sediment. The initial glass showed very powerful bramble fruit with leather, coffee, licorice and mushrooms. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium + tannins and medium acid. The notes from the nose were confirmed. The finish was long and rich. Overall impression was that this bottle very good but showing signs of secondary characteristics sooner than expected. Several hours later, I revisited the remaining half of the bottle and, to my surprise, it had really brightened up! The tannin had become more fierce, and the secondary characteristics were largely gone. It’s almost as if it got younger after extended exposure to air. Hard to say with any confidence what the future holds for these but they are plenty fun to drink now and I don’t expect them to fall apart anytime soon. That being said, they may need several hours of air to freshen up. — 2 years ago
Serious napa cab. This could go for a while, I guessed a nice napa cab from like 2017 or so. But this is still fresh and wonderful but that fun sweet red earth napa cab vibe. This makes me regain some confidence in napa again. Despite all the madness that happens there (and ludicrous prices) there is a real reason for good wine. Not just big oak and wine manipulation. I really enjoyed this, man if napa was more like this maybe I would buy it more... — 3 years ago
