M.C.K. (Motor City Kitty) Syrah 2016

This wine is very enjoyable and also very young. I opened it yesterday and I’m writing a review on it 24 hours later. Initially it was nothing but black pepper on the nose with minimal fruit and a lot of pepper. Today the pepper is subdued and there is some enjoyable red fruit. Old world and new world collide. Don’t open this for at least 5 years. It’s an amazing wine! One for the cellar for sure. — 3 days ago

Charles Heintz Vineyard Syrah 2016

Showing different than the 14 or 15. Much more well rounded. My knock on the first two vintages was the lack of depth on back end. This has changed that. Black fruit in this dense Syrah. Lovely wine — 21 days ago

Chinon Cabernet Franc Rosé 2015

Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.

One of the most unique, and enjoyable, rosés I’ve had in a while. More orange than pink in the glass. As expected, herbal and musty aromatics with underripe nectarine and black cherry skin. Soft and round on the palate with additional note of tart rhubarb. Complex. Thanks

Coteau de Noiré Chinon Cabernet Franc 2016

a very good cab franc. reminds me of Paleo but on a less ripe version. No Brett or reduction....smell of small red berries, riper peppers and a touch of graphite. Second day it began to shut down but was more balanced. No touching my other ones for 4 or 5 years — 17 days ago

Richebourg Grand Cru Pinot Noir

After about 45 minutes the funk did blow off leaving amazing aromas of Asian spice and forest floor, with a slightly olive finish. Terrific balance and clearly the tannic spine so characteristic of the 61 vintage has allowed this wine to age gracefully — 8 days ago

First note that hit me was Lemon and vanilla wafer. Beautiful added notes of lemon cream, honeysuckle and chalk aromatics with grilled lemon and pasty on the palate. Slightly oxidative but not as much as I expected. Faint bubbles. Young! Thanks

Wow. Once this one cooled off, it was rocking. Nilla and lemon wafer. Hint of breadiness. But this is a nice balance between oxidative and reductive styles. And powerful. This wine has a minerality and crushed limestone on the finish that makes me think this one is going to be around for a long while. Very complex, and only going to develop with time. I seriously doubt I will give my other one the time it deserves to fully integrate, and that's a pity.

Broncho Stoneridge Vineyard Malbec 2013

Yes, Charles Smith and his team also produces a really great Malbec. Pronounced blue and black fruits, hint of graphite, violets, cocoa and tar. Touch of vanilla on the long and slightly tart finish. This wine exhibits a nice freshness. Medium body and tannins with balanced acidity. Softens beautifully as it opens up. — 18 days ago
