Clos du Chêne Vert Chinon Cabernet Franc 2017

Bright medium ruby , perhaps a little more ruby on the rim than the Clos de la Dioterie . More sweetly fruited , with more red fruits than dark , spiced cherry , strawberry, raspberry , rose , roast red pepper, cranberry. Quite rounded tannin , balanced acidity . On the palate mixed summer fruits with strawberry , red cherry with good density, quite juicy but well balanced . Roasted pepper , spicy cherry , wet slate infused finish with medium length. This probably will improve over the next 5 or so years and last well a further 5-8 — 2 months ago

The Velvet Devil Washington State Merlot

Beautiful and very well rounded. Less sweet than I usually like but still so tasty. Very full on the nose- hints of flush red fruit. Nice acidity and tannin balance. — a month ago

Les Maillons Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Champagne Pinot Noir 2017

Most of the love in the Ulysse Collin lineup goes to the BdB’s but I am a big fan of the Maillons, particularly recent renditions. They’re more giving on release, always so demonstrative and aromatically expressive, and this one, based on the 2017 vintage is no exception, wafting layers of defined orchard fruit, bread dough and wildflower honey. The palate is both concentrated and focused with racy acids, a wonderfully textural mousse and a bright, energetic and mineral laced finale. Top notch Blanc de Noirs to no surprise. — 2 months ago

Clos de la Dioterie Chinon Cabernet Franc 2017

Bright medium ruby with quite thin ruby , garnet rim . Quite closed with sweet cassis , touch of clove and ash , violet , dark cherry , wet stone . On the palate more of the cassis and spicy blackberry notes , dark cherry , but mineral and saline also , touch of slate , tobacco . Quite lean and refreshing, balanced alcohol . Quite high acidity and grippy tannin . Good mineral and cassis tinged finish . Elegant and refined . Needs a bit of time , will probably improve over the next 5-8 years and will last well a further 10 or so . — 2 months ago
