Domaine Vincent Paris

La Geynale Cornas Syrah 2020

Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service; enjoyed alongside the 2020 Cuchet-Beliando, over the course of a couple hours. The vines for Vincent Paris’s “Le Geynale” are none other than the 100+ year old vines that he inherited from his uncle, Michel Robert. The 2020 “Le Geynale” pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. The nose is incredible, a bit like a pile of ripe black and blue fruits were placed inside an old world deli case and garnished with purple flowers. The wine is developing with blackberries, black plum, fig, lavender, black pepper, cured meats, oil cured olives, dried green herbs and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Outstanding stuff. Drink now through 2050. — 5 months ago

Diane de Belgrave

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Final meal in Paris. I had read about Anthony Bourdain liking this place because of its simplicity and perfectly cooked meat. (Apparently one of his favorites in Paris). Great meal to close our week in Paris, especially if you like fire grilled meat as much as we do.

The Diane de Belgrade was a textbook Bordeaux. I liked it even more after a bit of time in the glass. This wine is also a reminder that even simple bottles can be amazing. @Robert et Louise in Le Marais.

Cornas Reynard (R) Syrah 2014

Medium ruby , quite wide medium ruby garnet rim . This is quite aromatic , with earthy sous bois , violets , black pepper , garrigue . On the palate quite elegant and dark fruited , bright acidity and quite strict tannins . Good cassis, blackberry , menthol touches , sous bois , grafite finish . This is ready and drinking well but will probably continue at this level for another 5-10 years or so. At Drouant Restaurant, Paris . — a year ago

No @Dave , just here for a couple of days …. So any suggestions of places to go are very welcome ! Was impressed by the wine lists at Drouant to be honest , lots of depth and prices that were really quite reasonable, and the food was pretty good too …

I'm not sure where you're staying, but i always hang out at Robert et Louise. It's got a nice vibe, great food, and a sensible wine list. Prices are pretty good, too. Just across the river from Notre Dame. https://www.robertetlouise.com/

Château Au Grand Paris

Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Interesting wine based on the fact that age has really mellowed it. Nose features violets, asphalt, Forrest Floor with a note of dark cherry/cassis fruit. Dark berry fruit is muted on the pallet with hints of dark chocolate. Soft tannins on the medium finish.
