Red Door Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

A favorite. You can tell by the color of the wine when you pour it that it is a big cab. Smooth though. — 2 days ago

Goldatzel

Winkeler Hasensprung Spätlese Riesling 2016

Riesling is the greatest because the place and the year and the maturity and so many inputs create such a diverse set of faces. But it’s always unmistakenly Riesling.

Goldatzel is a newcomer to the Rheingau. Winkeler Hasensprung is electric and youthful. Flashy green spearmint with key lime citrus and papaya. The zing greets you at the door. Weight and round sweetness show you the long way out.

DeMorgenzon

Sauvignon Blanc 2018

David T
9.1

The fruits are brighter than the Chardonnay. Pineapple, white peach, green melons, ripe, cantaloupe, lime, lemon curd, touch of canned pears, grassy notes, yellow & spring flowers with lilies.

The body is lean, fresh and lively. After the leaner, bright fruits subside, grippy minerals take hold overlaid by white spice and powdery chalkiness. Pineapple, white peach, green melons, ripe, cantaloupe, lime, lemon curd, touch of canned pears, grassy notes, yellow & spring flowers with lilies. The acidity perfect. The finish is delicious, easy to drink with nice balance.

Crystallum

Mabalel Overberg Pinot Noir 2018

I did not get to write notes on the last three wines, just scores. We had to get to Russell Hamilton.

However, I wish I had been able to write them as these were the wines I was looking forward to spending some time on.

Peter & Andrew Allan of Crystallum are the third generation of winemakers and sons of the man who pioneered Pinot Noir winemaking in the Hemel-en-Aarde which; is what drew me to the region that is about another hour plus SE of Stellenbosch and a very good area to produce Pinot Noir.
