Margariat Saint-Joseph Syrah 2021

Lyle Fass
9.7

Needed 1 hour last night then it got reductive. But today oh man! Nose is glorious red fruits, granite, herbs and flowers. Clay, iron ore. Some blackberry as well. palate is raw and feral with blood, guts and meat. Concentrated and linear. Unreal texture and finish but needs a decade. — 9 months ago

Vieilles Vignes Morey-Saint-Denis Pinot Noir 2015

This was rich, deep with complex layers of fruit and spice that soars out of the glass. A “Wow Wine” & one of the best $50 range Burgundies that I have ever experienced. A producer I buy at all Cru levels that shows purity of fruit & transparency. — 6 years ago

Gorgeous clay-like nose. Juicy and dense, with insane tannin management, gorgeous granite, acidity, velvet texture, freshness and unreal energy. So, so sick. — 12 days ago

The best are imported Lyle Fass from Ziereisen on very rare occasions they can be found in a store. Ziereisens wine beat what i have tasted from Switzerland - but hey the guy is almost in Switzerland.

@Pinotman /// Andreas thanks for this. I’ve only ever had Swiss Chasselas and will keep my eyes open for Ziereisen.

Première Note Syrah

Surprisingly good, and as clearly northern Rhone syrah as any wine can be. It has the strong fruit and the floral complexity, but remains smooth on the palette and well balanced. — 6 years ago

Clos St. Jean Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Beautiful nose of spearmint accented tropical fruit. Layers of apricot, citrus & a savory note move across the palate. Elegant weight & fresh bright acid add textural complexity. This is in a wonderful spot right now. — 6 years ago

Esprit de Granit St. Joseph Syrah 2020

Yet another exemplary wine from this co-op. Bloody and irony on the nose, some nice fruit underneath the primal elements. Very linear on the palate, medium body but great intensity of savory flavors. So soft and enveloping but without excess weight. Very nice acids. — 8 months ago

Excellent, the Alsatian co-ops also produce really fine QPR wines if you ever find them in the U.S.

Morey St. Denis Pinot Noir 2016

I decided to revisit a bottle that was the winner of our horizontal tasting of MSD 2016 village (10 producers tasted blind by 10 participants). And once again this is a hit for a village. Lots of complexity, licorice, spices and red fruits... more than satisfactory length for this level of appellation. — 6 years ago
