Got from Domestique (on N Cap), had last night at the Catskills. — 5 years ago
Another older bottle from Cap 'n Cork. — 10 years ago
Opened about two hours prior to service and allowed to breathe. Two bottles were opened tonight from the same cellar and both corks showed some saturation but only through the first 1/3. No formal notes. The 1999 Flaccianello pours a youthful ruby color with a slightly garnet rim and some signs of sediment though nothing I would describe as unusual. This is an absolutely delightful Flaccianello that I would still describe as “developing”. A mix of red and dark fruits with dried herbs, black tea, espresso, leathe and dried earth. The tannins are still firm and the acid is zippy yet everything is in perfect balance and well integrated. This was paired with a deconstructed BLT highlighting the produce from local area farms and salmon rillettes with turnips, fennel and orange. I don’t have a lot of experience with Flaccianello (or Fontodi for that matter) but this is a wonderful representation of Chianti Classico (although not designated such) and if the two bottles opened tonight are representative, this vintage has a lot left in the tank! Drink now with a little air to stretch its legs and over the next 10-15 years, no cap. — a year ago
14% alc. Screw cap.
First tasted as "pop n' pour" and enjoyed again with 24 hours of air this is starting to wake up.
A VERY good PN from Franken and although the areas/AVA stylistically are different (like comparing Cab from Coombsville vs Oakville in Napa) the reference points for me for fantastic German Pinot's are still Henrik Möbitz (Baden) and Chat Sauvage (Rheingau). — 9 years ago

2019 “Hydra” Sparkling Goriška Brda, by Kabaj.
First Slovenian Pet Nat! Woot!
Lite & tasty notes of Golden fruit, honey, stones, floral, apricot nectar with a lemon twist. Similar notes on the nose.
Slight haze, some loose lees notable.
Eager bubbles, heard the bottle pop from other room. Crown cap with plastic stopper underneath. Good stream bead and saturation.
13% ABV
If you are in the SF Bay Area, highly recommend pairing with Dish n’ Dash Chicken Shawarma Wrap; Jerusalem Style (Hummus/Eggplant/Cauliflower). Good pairing synergy.

Happy New Year!
Maybe the Michel Arnould old vines powerhouse is too serious for a lighthearted celebration, but it was just right for father and son wine geeks having New Years dinner alone together for the first time since 1999.

This is a very good example of Lugana white, 100% Turbiana (closely related to Trebbiano, but not the same, despite the identified wine). It’s light bodied with bright acidity, some citric tartness, and a bit of graphite earthiness to the finish. This winery has switched from corks to screw cap closures in recent years; I have mixed feelings about this, since these closures will not allow the wine to age anytime soon, which motivates me to drink the bottles sooner. — a year ago
