Mazzoni Piemonte DOC Barbera 2012

Lovely color. Ruby red to dark royal purple. Smells nice. Flowers (roses, bearded iris and tulips?). Flavors are juicy and dense. Woodsy with cedar and cherry bark. Bit of licorice. Plenty of pies. (Cherry, strawberry, rhubarb, even a strawberry-rhubarb perhaps). All that is wrapped in a velvety, elegant mouthfeel that lingers long with just the perfect amount of bittersweet. 8 years on this is fo sure ‘keeping it real’. Coste & Fossati Dolcetto d'Alba 2017

Nose has ripe blackberry, wet leather, wet metallic rocks and shaved dark chocolate.

Palate has ripe blueberry, tannic blackberry, hibiscus tea with medium tannins and a long finish. Impressive wine.

Color is amazing, dark purple, almost could be viewed as CA Syrah or Spanish Grenache. A gifted bottle from a Tastevin brother who's come to know my palate, a delicious offer. Best Dolcetto I've tasted, weighty and beautiful, yet youthful.

Langhe Bianco Arneis Blend 2016

A really nice Arneis blend from GD Vajra. A little Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc thrown in for good measure, producing a richer finish. Decent QPR, found at Whole Foods. — 18 days ago

Antichi Vigneti Propri Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 1967

Like the ‘71 Mascarello a good cork and a high fill that is where the similarities end.
This was a stereotypical aged Barolo and I say that as a compliment. Beautiful aromas of cherries, leather ands dried leaves. This tasted very fresh due to the wonderful acid levels. Juicy cherries , mushrooms, tobacco and dried meats all fought to get the attention of my tastebuds. A finish that defied its age. Wish I had another bottle because I don’t think this one is going anywhere for years

Infanticide... but delightful even at this stage. Medium body, the acidity keeps it light on its feet. Soft, graceful tannins ease the dark cherry/berry notes. Obviously the wine will age for years... but probably not when it drinks this well today. Represents amazing value. — 4 days ago

Friday night and tonight's wine is the 2016 Castello di Neive Barbaresco. This wine is 100% Nebbiolo from Neive, Italy.

On the nose there is cherry, raspberry, strawberry, anise, rose and dry soil.

On the palate is cherry, raspberry, rose, spice, licorice, soft oak, clay pot and earth.

This wine is medium body with medium+ acidity and medium + to high mouth coating fine sandpaper tannins that leads into a long drying red fruit finish.

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1990

Old style barbaresco. The tannins have mellowed out but they are still there. Tertiary aromas that are hard to describe, faint rose petal perfume, old leather, maybe a bit of cinnamon. The color is brownish red. It is medium body with drying sensation at the end. The finish is long and persistent. I bought this one a long time ago and probably paid $20 or less . I am pleasantly surprised how good it is for its age and the producer’s obscurity. — 4 days ago
