The Gooseberry Bush Colombard 2025

Gooseberry fused with lemon/lime make this Colombard/SB blend crisp, fruity, and low acidic. When the weather’s this hot, this is a solid go-to. — 10 days ago

Old Bush Vine Single Vineyard McLaren Vale Grenache 2015

On opening an oaky honied note which settled down. A sweet and savoury palate showing spicy berries and ripe cherries - perfect with homemade pizza. Not a typical varietal Grenache but a good midweek dry red just the same. From a producer new to me recommended by the Sommelier at the Downs Club. The following night a meaty note - much more savoury than fruit driven - quite delicious. Don’t normally have bottles only 5 weeks apart but there you go. Had a bottle on 25th November 2022. Typical raspberry notes on nose and palate - a nice wine. — 4 years ago

Wood, licorice, a then cherry arrives (breathe deep). Carries an age and brightness in flavor that can’t be possible but is nice. Plum, and cherry come through. Very nice. — 6 years ago

9.3

Just like the African Bush, don’t come to the Egyptian Desert without it.

Celebrating the ending of a great trip on the eve of our last day at The Old Cataract on the Nile River with one of our very favorite N/V Rosé Champange’s.

Photos of; the pano view of the Nile River from our terrace, Sofia holding our other 375ml bottle BSR we brought from the US, the lobby of the Old Cataract and the grounds of the Old Cataract Hotel.

9.3 on the Billecart-Salmon Rosé and a 9.9 on our trip!

Bush Vine Barossa Grenache 2023

Unusually complex for Grenache at this price range. Light and slightly savory. Notes of ginger, lemongrass, and pepper right after opening. Followed by mint and licorice after it opened up. — 2 months ago

Domaine A

Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

An excellent aged Cabernet to go with a Scotch Fillet at the local pub in Sorrento on Boxing Day night. Domaine A is living proof that Tasmania does get enough sunshine to ripen Cabernet Sauvignon. All the classic Cabernet descriptors - Cassis Tomato bush, and Tobacco leaf to the fore here. Medium weight with resolving tannins. — 3 years ago

The FMC Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 FMC, which comes from pure Chenin Blanc bush vines planted in 1974, has a subtle, precise bouquet of white flowers, peach skin, kumquat and light apricot scents, very pretty and charming. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This builds in the mouth, fanning out wonderfully on the finish without losing an ounce of precision. Superb. Cristom

Mt. Jefferson Cuvée Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016

Strawberry cotton candied bramble of a nose.

Light bodied, with colorful layers of acidity. Specific, precise fruits show themselves one by one, bing cherry, fresh off the bush raspberry, fresh off the bush blueberry, hints of cola. The acidity is so well integrated, it picks up dead center and follows through way past the end, a finish to a finish, if you would. This is an excellent wine. Cris and Tom have never let me down.

High Sands McLaren Vale Grenache 2017

Vingård planeter 1945. Bush vines. Nja. — 5 years ago

Houghton

Gladstones Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Even though Houghtons are a very old Swan River based winery just outside Perth (established 1836)this is their very good Margaret River Cuvée called Gladstones. The nose is classic Margaret River Cabernet with Blackberry Mulberry, Bay Leaf, Tomato Bush, Geranium and Herbal. The palate is medium to full bodied with dark red and black fruits with herbal overtones finishing with surprisingly soft fine dry Tannins. The 2008 vintage of this wine was a Wow wine when first tasted at the Cape Mentelle International Cabernet Tasting some years ago and this 2010 continues the high standard of Gladstones. First of 6 - next in a year or 2. — 7 years ago
