Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!
What a treat this will be in 10yrs! Very youthful right now. I don’t know how the grapes are used here, but it was reminiscent of whole cluster Pinot. Similarities to the Antica Terra Angelical wine but more spice and denser core. Lifted and energetic profile. Smoked and slightly bloodied with iron and smoky beef jerky. The finish showed tart mulberries and baked black cherries. Oak wasn’t very noticeable. Hold. — 6 days ago
Luego de una hora empezó abrir y sin duda es superior a cualquier Valbuena y cuidao si algùn año de único....👏 — 7 days ago
This is a natural, unfiltered wine that although produced within the DO Bierzo region, falls out of the rules of production, so it ends up with the IGT clssification. Dried flowers, blueberries, and smokey vanilla on the nose, continued floral aspects on the palate as well as fresh cherries and moist earth. Quite nice, more minerality than I expected and smooth as silk tannins. Medium finish. Price/quality relation is amazing, €15 the whole bottle at the bar in Madrid — 16 days ago
2006 El Puntido is the current release, and it is stunning. Remarkably elegant, Burgundy-like expression of Rioja Alta from a cooler high elevation site. High-toned, floral and mineral with silken texture, melted tannins and ample concentration. Iron fist inside a velvet glove. — 25 days ago
Ripping good right from the initial pour and held up like a seasoned champ for hours in the decanter — a month ago
Light, bright yellow. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruits, ginger and honeysuckle on the incisive, finely delineated nose. Silky, sharply focused and energetic on the palate, offering intense Meyer lemon, green apple and quinine flavors that deepen slowly on the back half. Plays power off of finesse with a smooth hand and finishes impressively long and mineral, with excellent clarity and lingering florality. I've learned over the years that this wine, an icon of the region, ages along the lines of a top-notch Chablis so don't hesitate to stash some away for further down the road. 1962 Vega Sicilia Unico. Most interesting wine of the tasting. Started out with classic earth, funk notes. Decanted abt an hour before pouring. In the glass, abt 2 hours into dinner, wine took on coffee, toffee, butter notes. Great body. — 17 days ago
