The 2020 Gattinara is elegant and lifted. Crushed red berry fruit, cinnamon and orange peel grace this ethereal, nuanced Gattinara. Bright saline notes and sweet red-toned fruit build into the long, persistent finish. Understated and silky, the 2020 is exquisite. All this needs is a few years to soften. Nervi Gattinara Riserva 1982. Wow, what a wine! Still had some grip after more than 40 years. Lots of leather and cigar box, but also some red fruit. Cork was in remarkably good shape and the neck fill was pretty high, so we speculated that it might have been filled up and recorked before release. Great wine, showing what was there before the Conternos ever got involved. — 4 years ago
Even though it is young it is very elegant , a hint of chocolate , 13.5 %. We had this at the Nervi winery — 8 years ago

Translucent garnet with a bit of oranging.
Floral nose with red currant and raspberry fruit.
Light bodied, upright acidity and astringency giving way to velvet tannins. Probably has another 10 years before peaking. — 4 years ago
1978 is drinking very well. — 10 years ago
Incredible bouquet but took a long time to open up and for the mineral and acid to mellow. Smooth and gentle when it finally did. Would only go for cellared bottles. — 8 months ago

Pale ruby, old leather, funky ripe strawberry, dried roses, damp concrete block; dried raspberries, dried cherry then rehydrated. 3H decant, but more time appreciated as it's really unfolding in the glass tonight. — 4 years ago
Beautiful floral notes - red roses hits you at first. Dried tart cherry, red currant, wild strawberry, fennel, mushroom. Touch of sandalwood once it opens up. Really nice — 7 years ago

Light copper colour, hints of salmon pink , fine constant perlage . On the nose this shows strawberries and cream , sage and some baked bread notes , though is still fresh and lively . On the palate this has lightly spiced strawberry fruit , brown bread , white chocolate , good freshness and some structure . Herbal red fruit tinged , chalky finish of reasonable length. Certainly an interesting and intriguing wine , a well made sparkling that is not Champagne , obviously , but is made in that mould and shows what can be done. Already almost 10 years old this is showing at peak I would imagine , no rush , so drink over the next 3-4 years . Had a ‘home’ here in Florence . — a month ago
