vintage 2013 | Trouvaille from Salento. My Sunday bubble. Made with the classic methode from Bianco d’Alessano and Fiano. Ten years sur lie (!). It is friendly and exciting. I figured out what do I smell? Roses with hints of caramel. In the taste hints of peach, easy drinking. Paired with French bread with nut salami and tunafish salad for breakfast. Something different! Olive, petrol, and red fruit on the nose. The palate is bright with mulberry, tart wild blackberry, and cranberry. Notes of kalamata and green olives are mixed in along with savory herbs. There is a funky, earthiness in the background. Finishes with refreshing acidity and some rosemary. — 11 years ago

This dark wine has a fruity nose of blackberry and plum, but there are some more savory notes as well. Black pepper, cigar box and black olive also come through. On the palate, licorice and plums are in the forefront of one of the fruitier flavor profiles I have tasted in Apulian Primitivos. The 16% alcohol is not as overpowering as I imagined it would be. The tannins are fairly forceful and the acidity is refreshing. This wine drinks really well and will pair nicely with a marbled rib eye steak. — 5 years ago

2009. It's much better after some bottle age. Very smooth with tannin and acid in great balance. Very full bodied and food friendly. Bottle was empty quick. Would definitely decant a younger one. — 10 years ago

Oxidative, port-like nose and showing a deep but bright golden color with orange hues. Making a striking first impression of freshly baked apple pie, complete with brown sugar, cinnamon and clove accents. Honey, almond, hazelnut, orange marmalade notes emerging but with a sense of freshness and lift. Very dry on the palate with moderate alcohol and med + viscosity, not at all heavy. Lean and supple on the mid palate, the wine is showing good movement and texture with some tannic grip which no doubt is the result of a skin maceration that probably lasted 2 or 3 days. 70 % Grieco di Castel Venere/30 % Cerreto. Good luck remembering that. Surprisingly fresh and vibrant for an orange wine. Worth seeking out. — 8 years ago

Some nice chewy tannins in this Montepulciano, making it perfect for drinking with pizza. Peppery, savory, and briny like olives, it's a wine suited for drinking amongst the faded, yellow walls of Lucali. — 9 years ago
