Very intense nose reminiscent of some heavy layer of jam on croissant. 60% milk chocolate 40% dark chocolate kinda thing. My Port obsession continues with Sandeman. Still very attached to Niepoort tho. Dirk knowz — 9 years ago
Hidden Niepoort. You did not taste this one. Sorry. — 11 years ago
50% Touriga Nacional e 50% Alfrocheiro, MADE by Julia Kemper, a reconverted lawyer supported by Dirk Niepoort, started to make great Dao wines, this one is a concept more simple, very floral notes fruity and elegant, a good stuff 😃 — 12 years ago
An intense and seducing wine made by Jorge Serodio Borges, Sandra Tavares and Dirk Niepoort - elegant and sophisticated and nice complexity, great aging potential 😃 — 12 years ago
2007 colheita, bottled in 2022. You can't go wrong with Dirk Niepoort's colheitas and this freshly bottled 2007 is a beauty. Niepoort colheitas are typically bottled after minimum 10 years in barrel (the legal minimum being 7 years) and the first bottling for this 2007 took place in March 2018. While they won't go bad in bottle, you might as well get them as fresh as possible. Brilliant tawny colour. Wonderful aromatics with candied fruits, orange peel, salted caramel and coffee. In the mouth it is amazingly fresh, with bright acidity balancing the dried figs and plums and the refined tannic backbone. Impressively long finish with candied orange, dark chocolate and coffee. A beautiful meditation wine and exceptional value. Abv. 18,9%. — 3 years ago
Unfortified flor-aged 100% Palomino by Dirk Niepoort & Equipo Navazos, sourced from the historic Macharnudo vineyard in Jerez. Fermented in old, 600-liter oak casks with indigenous yeasts and aged for 12 months under flor. Oxidative nose with hints hay and pineapple. Light, mineral, precise and bone dry on the mouth, with nice saltiness and a long, somewhat bitter finish. — 6 years ago
Love Niepoort! Would love to meet Dirk Niepoort. I envision him the Willy Wonka of winemaking. — 11 years ago
One of the great Douro wines, took over by Dirk Niepoort - resulting in an elegant and balanced wine, with nice concentration and character but also freshness, making this wine really friendly and a sure value to open with winelover friends - Morgadio da Calçada Reserva is a selection of the best grapes from Provezendearea, in order to produce a complex wine, maintaining the typical freshness and balance. This is the 4th edition of this wine with Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz being the main varieties. 😄👏

2016 vintage. Dirk Niepoort's answer to Burgundy and it actually has a Pinot Noir like colour and mouthfeel. This is a very unusual Douro from very old vines. Delicate nose with sour cherries , pomegranate and flowers. It is all about finesse and subtlety. Very long. Delicious and expensive (80 euros), but if you see the prices of Portuguese high end wines these days it almost seems a bargain. — 3 years ago

Quinta de Val Boa - Vinho Verde 2013 - One of my favorite and untypical Vinho Verde - small production by Jorge Albuquerque da Quinta, blend of Trajadura, Pederna and Azal they produce a range of three wines - this one is elegant intense , floral - minimum intervention in the winemaking - Dirk Niepoort is around 😀 — 11 years ago
Brilliant and age-worthy from Dirk Niepoort — 13 years ago

Hate to use this comparison, but it’s a point of reference: this taste like high quality white Rhône blend. It’s a 2017 and it’s tight at opening with umami notes which turn to the lightest gooseberry unctuous concoction you’ve ever tasted (in due time). The finish retains plenty of acidity and balance to keep you sipping. Dirk Niepoort is a wizard; and the native Portuguese varietals dance to the tune of his wand in this bottle. — 2 years ago
