Rioja Blanco 2020

Youthful fruit. Compact. High-toned and perfumed. I’m going to give this one a couple years in the cellar. Very fine. — 4 days ago

Tierra Alta Vineyard Syrah 2018

Blackberry, anise, wood smoke, hints of blueberry, a thread of olives throughout. It’s Cali Syrah putting off a little N. Rhône vibe. — 25 days ago

Viña Ardanza Reserva Selección Especial Tempranillo Blend 2015

Ardanza is always so great for the price. 2015 has beautiful fruit and concentration. Tobacco. Needs 3-4 years but ready now if you like ‘em young like Dylon. Pair with still quivering rare T-Bone steak in San Sebastián. — 6 days ago

Viña Tondonia Rioja Rosé Blend 2010

My first bottle of this inimitable rosé and what a weirdo it was (in a good way of course). The nose reminded me of a cross between fino sherry, blanc de noir, and riesling - nuts, herbs, spices, dried strawberries, granny smith apple, orange peel, peach, petrol, and damp wood. Gosh, it's mind-boggling. The fino sherry theme continued on the palate, with a distinct salinity and steeliness that's steady and regular from start to end. The texture is silky, and finish crescendo-like, built on citrus freshness, red berried flavours, and salted fruit skin preserves. It just keeps gaining complexity as the night progressed, and would be interesting to see with an overnight slow-ox. Unfortunately, it paired incredibly well with some fried chicken that showed up on the table, so it was deemed gone. A one on the binary scale! — a month ago
