Alfredo Maestro (Bodegas y Viñedos Maestro Tejero)

Castrillo de Duero Tinto Tempranillo

Definitely have been on a Tempranillo Journey lately and this grape has a lot to offer. This was a well made Tempranillo. Plums, mix of red and dark cherries, raspberries and hints of chocolate. Youthful tannin that should integrate well in the future. Would store for a few years before re-exploring.

Farmer's Daughter Vancouver Island Rosé Blend 2017

Lots of mineral notes with some stone fruit. Not sweet, but could use a bit more depth. Pairs well with Alfredo pasta. Great for a picnic. — a month ago

El Rey del Glam Maceracion Carbonica Garnacha 2018

Fresh, fruit forward, with a bit of Brett. Couldn’t tell this was 14.5 abv. A great wine for a sunny, but chilly, day. — 3 days ago

Niagara Peninsula Syrah

Starts chocolatey, but opens up into a more jammy/berry taste after aireation. A tad bitter, maybe a bit young? Had at home with ribs, green beans (bacon/parm) and alfredo mac. Paired well with everything but mac. — 25 days ago

Apolloni Vineyards

Willamette Valley Pinot Gris 2018

Fascinating #willamettevalley white from #apollonivineyards. I had the distinct pleasure of being served this wine from the winemaker/owner Alfredo Apolloni, who made the trip for a tasting event at a local Houston wine bar. Alfredo was humble and engaging. He walked me through this wine, choosing to age 25% in acacia wood barrels so there’s a really compelling white citrus blossom aroma mingling with grippy tannins, hints of vanilla but no malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness and acidity. The acid bite is offset with forward fruit on this #pinotgris — 22 days ago

You were very fortunate to meet the vintner. All their wines are wonderful and the winery grounds are fun to visit! I recommend their rose’ as well as their Pinot noir if you want to try more of their wines.

Hook & Ladder

Estate Bottled Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2017

We had this wine with a chicken Alfredo pasta and it was amazing. Great color! Slightly fruity nose, smooth jammy taste, with a bit of a spicy kick at the end. While we don’t necessarily taste chocolate, we feel it’d be incredible with a chocolate pairing. I’m not completely satisfied with the price point, but we still give it high marks. — 4 months ago
