Hall Wines

T Bar T Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Shay A

January Wednesday Wine Committees are always a great as the red wines are required to be 11yrs old, making all of the reds 2008 vintage. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine were served today, all blind.

Have to give it to Hall...they know how to churn out consistent wines. I called this Bordeaux, actually. Never had a Hall this old. It’s shed the baby fat of red, blue and black fruit and showing more plum and cassis. Little bit of leather to it, with some dark cocoa dusted dates. Drinking nice, but I think I enjoy Hall’s winemaking style in its youth a touch more than 10yrs of age on them.

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

This is in a great place right now. So , so freaking good. I opened a 97 Napa silver oak the other day and was slightly disappointed. I think the AV is the Mike Tyson of the 2 right now. Drink em if you’ve got em!

Archimedes Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

This is a powerful Cabernet, initially restrained on the nose it opens up very nicely after a short time in the decanter. No such restraint on the palate, thick, silky and packed with fruit, leather and vanilla. This is not a delicate wine but it’s not overdone in my opinion, it was the perfect pairing for a Sunday roast beef. — 6 days ago

Scherrer Winery

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Very similar flavor profile to the 2012 Scherrer Vineyard cab, but without as much structure. This was surprisingly ready to go on opening and, given the lighter tannin presence, is one I’d enjoy over the next few years, while the vineyard designate could go longer. — 18 days ago

Katherine Crazy Creek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Legs, 10/10. Cherry, raspberry on the nose. Sorry, supple taste, smooth finish, not too tannic. I love this one! An A+ Cabernet. — 5 days ago

You know, you drink all this special stuff and then you score a bottle of Rodney. The high brows sigh. It’s pretty good. Solid. — 4 days ago

Big Rock Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Classic Alexander Valley nose and palate. Nice fruit yet still quite restrained. Good acidity on the front. Dark, punchy black cherry and herb and some subtle green pepper and black pepper on the finish. This one would crush an Alexander Valley Silver Oak both now and 10 years from now. Need to do an 07 side by side comparison soon! Drink or hold this one as it will surely develop over the next 15 yrs. — 16 days ago

Have only had a Chardonnay of theirs before. What’s your favorite bottling?

@Greg Ballington I do like their Barrel Select Chard without a doubt. Their fave wine of mine is either the Bob's burn pile Cabernet, the Cabernet Franc, or The Rock Block Cabernet...however they do offer a petit verdot as well which is very good for the sub $50 price tag
