My first GG purchase - and what a bargain at $38. Fuller bodied and ripe Riesling that managed to be juicy, dry, and elegant. A hint of oak adds a nice creaminess to the mid palate, while the finish features sizzling clean acidity.
More info: Rosengarten is a 3.5 ha former monopole that is enclosed by historic stone walls and castle ruins which offer protection from wind and cool air (Spreitzer owns 2.5 ha). The soil is shell limestone rich with calcerous loam. — 2 years ago
About 2 years since my last bottle. While this is absolutely yummy, there has been little real progression in bottle to date. On the nose: green apple, soft peach, a suggestion of effervescence and some yeast. On the palate, fantastic acidity, green apple, meyer lemon, good density, and a very clean finish. Seems largely unchanged from my previous tastings. — 3 years ago
Oops...didn't check whether I had this recently. On the nose: classic pure peach, melon, soft petrol, some leesy notes, sour guava, yum. On the palate: fantastic acidity, excellent density, wet stone, underripe guava, sweet peach, good length on the finish. Note to self: give the next btl some time, say 3-5 years? — 2 years ago
Apricot marmalade and drying flowers. A little more advanced than expected but still delicious. — 3 years ago
Good sweet Riesling, a little sweeter than I expected. Very sweet attack with flavors of honey and pineapple, followed by crisp finish. Good even if a little over-sweet. — 6 months ago
Distinctive style of Riesling from the old vines of the Hendelberg vineyard. Noticeable skin contact and oak influence make this seem a tad more mature than 2017. Underripe passionfruit, strawberries and cream, and spice with a honeyed, medium bodied palate. $20 — 2 years ago
