Te Arai Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2017

Ron R

Wine Enthusiast lavished this with 97 pts, and personally, I beg to differ...
As with this varietal, complexity of flavors and perfume come along for the ride. The initial experience on the nose is predominantly notes of Yuzu and tangerine peel. Palate is piercing and close to gunpowder dry. It’s tense and nervy, with a hint of salinity. From a style perspective, if you enjoy CB, this is for you. For me, this is searing, and needs fatty foods to help it relax.

Let me walk my prior comment back and try again:
I already feel bad. Do you need to go there? I feel duped and used. Now I feel a little better.

Te Mata Estate

Coleraine Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2009

On Saturday I conducted a Cabernet tasting at home with 8 mates. The theme was 2009 vintage Bordeaux v Margaret River with this outlier from NZ included. This had leafy minty notes with a touch of coffee. A medium weight palate with a certain hardness which was a negative. Still a good future. Ended up being out classed in the company to follow. I will drink my remaining 6 bottles over the 5 to 10 years. — a day ago

Ray-Monde Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

Looking for balance, but a beauty
Cherry, cloves, tar, rose petals and balsamic
Present tannin, but of great quality
I have another bottle which I will try to put away for at list 3 to 5 years
Blindly I would have called nebbiolo no doubt
At this stage it requests food to fully enjoy it.

Crisp, mixed fermentation of barrel and stainless steel creates texture, lots of tropical fruit! — 15 days ago

Comparing 2 cool climate syrahs. Firstly the Salo from Hawkes Bay New Zealand made by Steve Flamsteed of Giant Steps fame. Peppercorns and spices on the nose with a ferrous note. On the medium weight palate it’s all about the pepper and spice. Love the style. We visited Hawkes Bay a few years ago and loved the Syrahs particularly the Trinity Homage. The Salo to be critical of what is a pretty good wine could do with a little more fruit. — 12 days ago
