Rosso Fresco Red Blend 2020

Red fruit, red berries, wooded brush, forest breath, cherries, cassis.

Pricing Sideways wrong (I mean it’s a blend, but still majority Merlot).

Jolly ranchers, blackberry compote, nice puckering acidity balanced with fruit forward tannins. Punchy.

Cabernet Franc Merlot blend. Absolutely stunning. Layers of fruit and spice all harmoniously interwoven with soft gravelly tannin. Wow! — 2 months ago

Ata Rangi

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2011

Medium ruby, medium- intensity aromas red fruits cherry fig pips, tobacco. Dry with medium+ acidity medium alcohol and medium + fine tannins. On the palate lots of cranberries and sage and ash. A bit one dimensional and lacking complexity. — 3 months ago

Te Kahu Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Merlot Blend

Mon M

Cattail creek wine dinner. Characteristics of pencil lead, tobacco, black cherry, and liquorish. The palate has a lifted acidity and spicy tannins but don't obscure the fruit expression. Paired with petite ribeye en persillade. — 5 days ago

Kumeu River

Coddington Chardonnay 2019

Some flinty funky notes to begin with. On the medium weight palate more stone fruit than citrus. I don’t have enough experience with Kumeu River to distinguish the different Chardonnay Cuvées but from Coddington, Hunters Hill, Maté’s Vineyard and the Estate, Mate’s is generally considered the best. I notice now there is a new Chardonnay Cuvée called Rays Road. This is restrained with just the right amount of intensity. A class act from Michael Brajkovich MW and the Brajkovich family. Michael was New Zealand’s first Master of Wine. An outstanding new world Chardonnay. — 3 months ago
