Stunning nose of terrific tiny berry fruit intensity. Tweed coat. Some herbals. Classic and so old school. Ripe and gritty. Kirsch. Beautiful fruit. Floral, expansive and so detailed. I could get lost in this nose. Huge fruit on the palate and wow on the mid palate. Sweet, concentrated and elegant but man this is young. Big tannins and super juicy with black cherry and terrific freshness but obviously needs some air to get more integrated. Stoney for Volnay. Huge structure like the other Buffet wines and the fruit core is stunning and they are toothsome but man is this young and backwards and I know air will help it as the finish is insanely backwards. Nose is getting more floral with air. As it airs it gets more elegant and complete. Tremendous fruit and grip. Like a squeegee of fruit. Black and dark. And so much.
This has mega potential and is as classic a Champans as i’ve ever had. 9.4 to 9.5 with air. — 5 days ago
The 19 was the Fass Selections’ RWOTY. The 20 is a worthy successor. Nose starts out a bit reductive. Under that is mega minerality. I love how transparent 2021 is. Now just stunningly gorgeous roses and such fine pungent minerality But that palate is what makes my toes curl for this wine. So silky, so elegant, so ethereal. Like a soft pillow you lay your head on. This has the texture that we all go nuts for. This blows away the many Jadot versions i’ve had which I happen to like a lot. Super juicy and thrilling red fruits. Tangy and fresh. More structured than the 19. But what a wine. I’d wait 5-7 years. — 2 days ago
OMG nose. Great terroir cannot be fucked with. It cannot. Black opulent cherries, hint of sweet wood, floral, dark, brooding. This is the EMO vineyard of Pommard. Insane and intense minerality. What mineral lift. Stunning nose. 9.7? 9.8? I don’t know. But it’s up there. Elite. Elite. Concentrated and intense but oh so young. Faboosh complexity and juiciness. Fruit is extraordinary but also needs air to show its true self. Man what a stoney Rugiens. Nose now showing kirsch. But a black kirsch. Energetic and so delineated and what insane fruit and finesse. Super complex and light as a feather but also deep, contemplative and dense. Wow. Stunning. A tick below 19. — 5 days ago
I was excited to try Jerome Prevost’s cuvée “&” for the first time (notably, the LC19’s the second iteration of this cuvée), but this bottle fell short of expectations. It just didn’t have the intensity one would expect of Jerome’s wines. Maybe it needed more air, but the touch of mousiness was a compelling enough reason to drink fast. Across dinner, it never really offended, with the mousiness only appearing as a Pandan-like note as one swallows, and the more animale nature arising from one’s breath after. However, it did seem to cut short the verticality of the wine, which I liked - lean, high acid, with a distinct chalkiness. Other flavours of interest include pears, nectarine, cream, touch of clove, and quite a bit of nuttiness. Flavours were there for me and it was good with dinner, but it was just missing the typical Les Beguines magic. On to the next bottle - hopefully better. — 15 hours ago
Pinot-Noir (66%) and gamay (34%) blend, both gourmet and sophisticated. The nose, marked by aging, evokes Burgundy by its toasted-cherry-vertical side, while the gamay would recall Beaujolais on strawberry-vegetable, jovial, floral and peppery notes. It's accessible, crunchy, with chew (not or little filtered) it pinote on a wide arotic range. The approach of a real friendly wine, with a solid final.
— 6 days ago
Gorgeous nose. Some sweet wood initially with an unreal haunting Volnay ethereal quality. Yowza minerality and a gorgeous floral streak. Expansive and just so pretty. I love the mineral depth here. Wow. Sweet fruit, elegant and so complex with awesome purity and depth. Sweet and energetic and lovely lift. Beats 19. By a lot. Terrific inner mouth aromas and sweet, crunchy and velvety tannins. Awesome length and structure. Super mineral driven finish. This is tremendous. Let’s see what air does. The wood blows off so quickly! Just so complete. Stunning value here. Extra juicy. Real complexity here. The fruit on this is divine. — 2 days ago
What a deep stoney nose. Ripe black cherry fruit and a compote aspect. Dense, brooding and layered. Incredibly vivid fruit. A saline aspect as well. Gorgeous. Palate is stunning. Bright but dark fruits and amazing freshness. So sappy and pure and elegant. The elegance in the kid’s wines has really ramped up. Beautiful wispy yet velvety and sweet tannins but not too sweet. A raspberry coulis aspect and lip smacking freshness on the finish. I love the 2020’s here. Terrific inner mouth aromas and insane opulence. So juicy and energetic. The tannins are super high quality and the fruit is dark and opulent but just so perfect. Not overdone and owns its darkness and opulence. Silky and sweet and so long. A brilliant bottle. The fruit never quits on the finish even as it takes a detour for the minerals to express themselves. Almost a 9.6.
This has come alive after many hours. Nose is more integrated. Much more. Gorgeous raspberry and cherry. Wow. Palate is insanely juicy and fruit is more red. Sappy as all can be. Brilliant. — 6 days ago
A charming PN quite typical of Swiss Valais. Light ruby color with a beautiful shine. Nose: red fruit a little spicy. Lively mouth strawberry, raspberry, licorice, with a beautiful aromatic extraction/concentration. A wine that is both light, fresh, with fine and gouleyant tannins, and length in the mouth A nice treat to serve a little refreshed.
— 2 days ago
Calera founder Josh Jensen passed away earlier this month after a lifetime of achievements that included elevating American Pinot Noir on the world stage
Served this with the Vinloq System
👃Bold, sexy, purple fruit floods from the glass endlessly
👅Spicy purple fruit, blood orange, sasafras, and licorice. A gentle tannic pull on the smoke tinged finish. Drinking well
Remaining wine was Slow Decanted in my refrigerator
👃Sweet, spicy, purple fruits with more vanilla, oak, vegetal, and tobacco notes than Day 1
👅Same sweet plummy fruit with tobacco and licorice. Fruit forward but balanced. Soft tannins and no heat
I did not have a preference for Day 1 or Day 10. There were more oak notes on both the nose and palate on Day 10. Two solid showings👍This is solidly in its drinking window & will be there for quite some time 🍷 — 8 days ago
