Zeta Viñas Viejas de Pegaso Vino de Garnacha 2015

#garnacha #gredos #spain I like Telmo Rodríguez’s Garnachas from Gredos more than many of the others from this region that almost look and taste like rosé and which don’t have cellaring capability because the high alcohol together with low body and structure. — a month ago

LZ Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2018

Purple colour, perfumed nose of fruityogurt, violets and some spice. No oak. Lively cross the palate, crunchy fruitbasket, full texture, fleshy, soft tannins. Superb acidity , drinking rapidly. Gorgeous and delicious wine and hard to beat at this pricepoint. Great job of Telmo! — 5 months ago

As Caborcas Single Vineyard Mencía 2013

2021/1/13-15 with judías and roasted cabbage, chorizo and eggs, etc. This is one of my favorite Mencia-based wines, though this bottle was slightly more mercurial than usual. It opened a little leafy and smoky, perhaps a touch reduced, but with air it revealed that rocky but elegant red fruit - cherry and raspberry. — 6 months ago

Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra Red Blend 2010

Telmo Rodríguez, the Spanish winemaker, aka the driving winemaker, because of his multiple estates across Spain, produces this Garnacha from Gredos in Castilla y León. A medium-bodied, granat red coloured wine, with red and black berries, but also a second layer of licorice, herbs some tobacco. Very soft tannines and a long aftertaste. Great wine! — 2 months ago

Branco de Santa Cruz Valdeorras Godello Blend 2011

2021/1. Super savory, with layers of stone and citrus fruit. This is still one of my favorite Spanish white wines (at least among somewhat “standard” styles, i.e. excluding Tondonia and of course sherry), though my experience is rather limited — 6 months ago

Matallana Ribera del Duero Tempranillo

This rocked my boat. Wood fire, sweet ripe red and black fruit, ultra smooth, long. Great on it’s own. Helped us through a quite disastrous movie. — 2 months ago

Never had a godello. Lots of minerals and a bit of acidic citrus. — 2 months ago

Pegaso Granito Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León Garnacha 2012

I had a hard time believing this was a Granoche. The flavors I come associate with that of an earthy and or beige us and somewhat forest floor kind of floral in nature. This was Jamie and hot and violets in the sun and everything like that. Very surprising but kind of makes sense coming from such a warm area. Good and expressive flavors, opened well, could’ve use a bit more structure but overall a very delicious wine. — 4 months ago
