Drinking very nicely. Drink now. For me, edges out '14 Bearwallow. — a month ago

Contra Costa County Old Vine Zinfandel 2019

Label makes me dizzy to look at. Screw top convenience . Nice color. Rusty fire truck red. Smells a bit like echinacea tincture and bitters. Fruit too. Flavors are on the lighter side for Zins, but there’s some grip and complexity there. When I first had it, it seemed like a fruit bombed standard Zin, but in second impression it’s got a lot more to offer. Herbal, zingy and chewy. This is a intriguing cooler climate Zin with good funk. — 3 months ago

Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2019

Surprisingly refined and restrained expression of Pinot noir. Paired with polenta and chicken not too overly seasoned to hide the subtlety of the wine. — 4 months ago

Areio e Vento e Amor Evangelho Vineyard Red Blend

What a great wine. This field blend from a single block of the Evangelho vineyard is made up of Mataro, Zinfandel, and Carignan among others. It’s a dusty, deep purple in the glass with dark, subtle fruit in the nose. Full of dark fruit, a bit of berry it’s incredibly smooth and full bodied with enough twinge of acidity and mild tannins to give it great structure. Excellent. — 15 days ago

Ok but a little ripe for me and too expensive for what you get. — 3 months ago

Evangelho Vineyard Heritage Red Blend 2019

What can I say? Pleasure in a glass. I just really love me my Bedrock Evangelho and this vintage in particular. Intoxicating aromas of cinnamon, cigar box, sweet berry fruit and dried thyme/rosemary/mint. Full bodied and ripe, but really fine, silty (as opposed to silky) tannins give it structure and there is ample acid there providing a punchy freshness. Most surprisingly of all, is this wine’s deceptively light touch. I’m tempted to polish off the bottle in one sitting, but at 14.5% abv that would be a bad idea. Pair with Snoop’s half time show performance (we just won’t tell him that this puts his 19 Crimes to shame) Prior notes apply. — 3 months ago

Quink Vineyard Mount Eden Clone Chardonnay 2018

Coming in a bit flabby, short on acid, vs the rest of the lineup. Good lemon confit on the nose, still a well-made wine, just doesn’t shine — a month ago

Santa Barbara County Syrah 2017

I’ve had Samsara Syrah before and was looking forward to a perfumed nose of violets and deep flavors of blueberries and blackberries backed up by muscular tannins. This bottle was different. Faint nose of something red, then mouthfuls of heavy flavor—tannic, yes, but also brambly and spicy. Reminded me of a California Zin/Syrah hybrid. Needed time to breathe and mellow. Very nice food wine to pair with beef. Had the 2017 vintage with steak tartare and boeuf bourguignon at Little Frenchie in Coronado, San Diego, CA. — 2 months ago
